"Welcome to your first session in Technology!" Said Professor Whitman, a short bearded man who was too cheery for Elle's liking.

They went through how to use a computer step-by-step. It took them forever.

It only started to get exciting when they logged into their ready made emails.

"Now most of you won't have received an email from anyone yet. It's okay, you aren't unloved!" Professor Whitman cried, making a lot of the class laugh. Not Elle.

She was staring at the screen.

Emails (1 unopened)

Who could possibly be emailing her?

She nervously clicked on her inbox.

From: calebprior@erudite.com

To: ellephillips@erudite.com

Subject: How are you?

Elle. I haven't seen you in a while, I was wondering how you were getting on? I was terrified when it came to my initiation. We should meet up some time soon.

I have to go now.

Always,

Caleb

It was sent just two hours before. She hadn't seen Caleb since their meeting at the choosing ceremony, almost two weeks before. Elle immediately started tapping out a reply. Professor Whitman wouldn't care that she was getting ahead of everyone. She'd learnt it all before anyway.

Caleb, I have a free period next lesson. Would you care to meet up?

Elle

His reply was almost instant. They organised their afternoon, and Elle almost didn't hear the bell.

"Now, log off and we shall meet again next week!" Professor Whitman shouted and threw his arms up in the air.

Elle grabbed her blue satchel from under the table and stuffed her blue pencil case in, jumped up and shoved the chair under the table.

"Hey, wait up. What's the rush?" Pauline, a short girl with glasses and short black hair from Dauntless called after Elle. She wasn't Elle's usual choice of friend, but she was the only one who was willing to be Elle's friend.

Elle quickly marched through the glass corridors, looking an exit. Ahead of her she spotted big mirrored doors. Aha! She started walking faster, so much she was almost running. When she got to them, she pushed the doors open and stepped into the sunlight.

Elle looked around, blinking, looking for him.

"I didn't think I'd see you again for a while." Said a deep voice. Elle looked in the direction of the sound, and spotted Caleb, leaning against the wall of the building, giving Elle the great big smile he'd given her when they'd first met.

"Me neither." Elle whispered loudly.

"So, what've you been getting up to?"

"Initiation. Lessons. Stuff."

"I see," He nodded. "Same with me last year."

Before long, they were talking like they had before. Like they were old friends. Until the bell went.

"Take care." Caleb said, patting Elle on the back.

"You too!" She said, walking away into the mind numbing world of fourth period chemistry.

But for once she didn't care. She was just thinking of Caleb, her first proper friend since Amity.
