Heroes. What are heroes? Are they people in tight outfits with capes and superpowers? Can they fly? Do they have super strength? Can they breathe fire or move the very foundations of the earth? Some have their own definition of a hero. To some, they don't need capes or super strength. They don't need to be an otherworldly being or someone with the ability to fly or move mountains. To some, a hero is someone who uses the gifts they have been given in life to help others. Or maybe even to just put a smile on the face of someone who has had a bad day. That is my definition of a hero.
Some never try to be a hero. We all have our faults and make mistakes. But some always tried to be themselves, and never let anyone try to change who they are. If they can't be themselves, then they believe they shouldn't try and live. But sometimes, situations happen where you must make a choice. Do you stay true to yourself, or would you change your very way of life for the sake of something you believe in? Or in this case, someone you believe in? In my eyes, that is where you truly discover if you are a hero. When the cards are dealt and you are left with a bad hand. Do you fold, or go all in?
Devlin never tried to be a hero, and never wanted to be. Until he made his choice to become one.
