monsters are real, and they look like people

Faded blue armor fell at the feet of your lover. His slender fingers reached up to remove his mask and he did so at an agonizingly slow pace. Such a tease, but what lay underneath was well worth the wait. A defined, handsome face that captured your attention time and time again. His mouth and eyes remained expressionless as you stripped down before him, revealing your sleek body. You were in no rush as you let your garments pool beneath you. Despite the bumps and curves of your imperfect figure, you felt akin to a goddess before him. And at that feeling his dark, cadet blue eyes crinkled and his perfect lips curved into a vast smile. He approached you, grew closer with every step. The sensual tension was a thick husk that covered the entire room. A broad hand reached out to cup your face and soon the gap between you both was filled, melting into a daring, chaste kiss.

"So, you managed to find me," a morbid voice called out to you. Shattering your special flashback and violently ripping you back into a hateful reality.

It was scorching hot, yet the being that stood before you was well below freezing. Noob Saibot. You had heard of him. The scorn of all evil. His allegiance only to himself and his only goal to conquer and rule the Netherrealm. A chaotic being that relished in his black aura. The darkness surrounded him comfortably, the whites of his eyes as empty as his heart. He intimated you with his power. Knowing well that he had no limits. And any being without barriers holding them back is a being that is unstoppable. The fear you felt around him was unnerving, it almost made you feel sick. Where you suffocated, he bathed in such a self-destructive emotion. His overwhelming presence consumed you.

"But tell me, what did you expect to gain from this?" his voice was like a lonely night. A moon with no stars.

All at once, the memories came back to you.

Tell me, where is Bi-Han?" you pleaded. "Surely you must know something, Kuai!"

The younger version of the former cryomancer kept his back towards you. He kept his head down, staring at the cold marble floor beneath him. His hands were clasped behind his back and you could barely make out the small, tired sigh that fell from his lips. Your questioning had proven to be out of not only your worry but love you still held for his brother. With that, he gave you an answer.

"My brother's fate is something he wouldn't have wished for you to discover. But your adamance proves that not even the Elder Gods could keep you away, correct?"

You hastily nodded.

"Then travel to the Netherrealm. There you will find your answer. But be warned, Bi-Han is not the same man he was before."

"The Netherrealm?" you whispered. "Now why on Earth...."

Your wrists were bound by black wisps of magic, thick as ink. Upon closer inspection, you were shocked to see an entire figure made out of this substance. And it was its own hands restraining you from any type of movement. This figure looked exactly like the creature in front of you, except dourer. It was a stolid shadow of Noob.

'You can't help me, (y/n). For I have already accepted what I am. It's time you do the same." he spoke in an awful, debilitating tone.

He walked up to you, just like on that very day. But whatever emotion he could be feeling was masked behind the nothingness of his pale eyes. He nodded at his inky counterpart and you were released from his grip. You collapsed to your knees, looking up at him helplessly as the realization began to sink in. He bent down and reached out with a cold hand to wipe the tears that had fallen from your glossy eyes. His colorless eyes bore into yours for what seemed like an eternity until he let go of your face. A sigh left the vents of his mask as held held his head down. After a few moments he rose and turned his back on you. "You should probably go now. This is no place for a divine woman such as yourself."

"I-I still want to," you whispered. Your lip quivered as he looked back at you with those eerie white orbs. "I still want to save you, Bi-Han!" you cried.

"I'm beyond saving," his voice sent shivers down your spine. Slowly he walked up to you once more. But this time, each step felt like a threat. He got down on a knee to meet your eyes again, "I'm Noob Saibot now." He seized you by your chin with his right hand, his fingers digging into your soft skin, "and you will fear me." He brought his face so close to yours that your noses were touching.

"No..." you murmured, moving your head slightly. Wet tears began to gather once more. You took a shaky breath and responded quietly, "I can't bring myself to fear the man I love. Not now, not ever." His hold on your face tightened. His fingers dug into your cheeks so hard they could leave marks, you couldn't help but whimper in pain.

But what meant to instigate fear instead led him to cradle your face in his hands with great tenderness. Despite the monster he became, he could not deny his everlasting feelings for you. He rested his forehead against yours, wondering how he should feel about it all.

But all he could feel at the moment was how badly he wanted you to never leave his side again.
