I felt myself reforming, becoming a solid mass once more. Phasing was always a strange sensation. Never once had it felt normal to me, and I don't think it ever would. The thought of being able to walk through physical objects always scared me, what if you got stuck. Would anyone hear you scream? But it was my life, so I had to deal with it. My brother sat casually on the bed opposite the bathroom wall, my strange abilities don't scare him quite as much as they used to, maybe because he grew on me using them. So why couldn't I?
I felt the prickling sensation of my nebula purple hair shifting into a hazel brown, this form would be much less shocking to my schoolmates than my unusual bright display. I felt my bright, radiant violet eyes fade into an emerald green colour. "Void lets go!" Jayden yelled annoyed, as he chucked my excruciatingly heavy black leather backpack at me, filled to the brim with things that weren't even slightly related to school. "Okay okay," I caught the bag in a steady hand, feeling the strain on my arm before I swung it over my shoulder and headed for the door.
"Good job Void, we are going to be half an hour late just like we were, nearly every day last year!" He said groaning before shutting and locking the door of our old beaten up apartment behind us. Even though we had to share a room that I could touch both walls with my arms outstretched, it was home.
"It's fine Jayden! Plus we are getting dorms this year."
"I'm still feeling weird about the dorms, I think I am going to ask if we can get one together."
I groan. As much as I love my brother he can be sometimes can be a real pain. This was my opportunity to actually make a real friend, one that wasn't related to me. I feel my human self-dissolve away, and yet again my purple, nebula return. "Watch this party trick." I muse as I shoot out my dominant left hand and feel the power run through my veins once more. Then right before our very eyes, space itself ripped open as a ball of dark matterish water, expanding into a human-sized portal controlled by the will of Void's hand.

Jaydens jaw dropped in awe and I giggled. "When did you have the time to learn this?" He whisper shouted. "All those trips to the supermarket you take really do come in handy you know!" I yelled over the ringing sound coming from the portal as I tucked the lock of hair behind my ear which was blowing rapidly from the gusts of wind that erupted out of the space hole. "Especially the ones where you pay Julia a visit!" I giggled again as I watched his face turn bright pink and turned to face the portal. I still marvel at the beauty of the swirling mass of space that lays out before me every time I do command it to do so, it was an empty blackness but full of the billions of tiny stars that twinkled like a diamond. I turn to my brother with a smirk, ignoring the fact I felt like my brain was a supernova ready to happen. "You should have known I got things covered." I teased. Before I could say anymore Jayden sprinted and dived headfirst into my beautiful creation. And I couldn't help but laugh as I jumped in after him.
By the time I exit which is less than a split second, Jayden is on the floor holding his head. I bring my hand to my mouth, in fits of laughter and the portal implodes behind me shutting it. "Idiot!" I laughed, "What did you expect to happen."
"Not.. that." He groans. I hold out my hand to help him up and feel myself returning to my 'more regular looking state'
From our point behind the school, I hear the shrill ring pierce the calm morning "SHOOT!" I scream taking off for the main building and leaving Jayden behind in the dust.
The fact that I am horribly faster than my brother is a curse and a blessing. I shot through the field to hear my brother screaming at me from behind but the warning came too late, A deathly black car pulls into the long drive, the windows as dark as the exterior but I can tell that they have seen me. My foot slips on something beneath me and I go thundering into the hard floor. Good job Void. My mind spills sarcastically. I had to get to cover now. I work my way back up to my feet and slowly and cautiously glance back at my brother. His glacier blue eyes are wide with fear. He knows what the people inside the car are capable of. Both of us actually, first hand. These were the people who murdered and destroyed out once happy family.
Memories come flooding back. Me four years of age. Looking around the empty living room, a deafening silence flooded the room "VOID! RUN!" My mother's voice cried from upstairs, piercing the muggy quiet. I wanted to run but I couldn't I had to see what was happening, I dropped the teddy I was holding and tiptoed up the stairs. My eyes grew foggy with tears. I was scared.

My mind welcomes me back into to world with a forceful shove on my back, I gulped down air taking as much in as possible. Jayden was beside me positively freaking out. "What the hell what that?!" He whisper-shouts. I straighten my spine bracing myself with a hand my on his arm the other on my throbbing head, I glanced around we were still in the middle of the field but the car had disappeared. I groaned as I stood, keeping a steady hand on my brother's shoulder for support. "The first day fail." I tease and smile. But I know it doesn't reach my eyes.
Then reality came crashing down like a ton of bricks.
"Holy moley! Jayden, what the hell is the time?! "
"8:30 AM why?"
"I have to tour the new girl around!" I half groan half yell.
"Wait, wh-" But I was already legging it for the door, carelessly placing one foot in front of the other, which is always a horrible idea for someone as clumsy as me. As I reach the top step I trip but manage to keep my balance, recovering from my fall and continued running. Until I stepped on my flipping useless shoelace and go into a headfirst belly flop, aiming at a weird angle to the floor. I fling my arms up in front of my face to stop myself from breaking my nose, but then I hit something, and I hit it hard, and all too quickly it is coming down with me.
