Dragonslayers. Strong, muscular men with nothing to loose and everything to gain, often accompanied by a sword and a beautiful maiden. That's the stereotype for dragonslayers, right? Not children raised by dragons and taught by dragons special dragonslaying magic, with almost no other human interaction, right? Well, sorry to burst your bubble, but the dragonslayers you know are long gone. So are the dragons, at least in their physical forms. But we aren't there yet.
Howdy. I'm Solace, and among other things, I'm the daughter of the Ice Dragon Eira. I've lived 15 years on the land named Fiore, located on Earthland. At one point, the landscape here used to be filled with warriors, dragons, mages, and gods, but that was many, many years ago. The land has changed, and so have I, but before my tail starts, you should know some background about how my little brother and his friends all became older than me.
·°'·._ The Day _.·´°·
It was the last day of a month of training with Igneel, the fire dragon, and Natsu, a salmon-haired little boy around half my age. See, despite the fact that my mother is an ice dragon, Ice Dragonslaying magic wasn't the only type I knew. Ice magic came too easily for me, and to prevent me from learning some freakish god-tier spell, every other month I live with Igneel and Natsu, learning fire estimating magic. I enjoyed it, and enjoyed being with the two. I had been taught for almost two years at this point, and had begun to combine both magics into awesome combo attacks. But that was besides the point.
"Solace-nee!" A voice called from behind me, and I turned around, smiling as my long ash-grey hair nearly whipped my face.
"What is it, Natsu?" I asked, watching him rock back and forth on his dirty feet.
"Dad wanted me to give you something before you left for Mount Hakobe!" I raised an eyebrow, surprised at the thought. Usually I just waved goodbye and that was that- Igneel rarely gave things to me. I tilted my head as Natsu presented a wrapped package, tied up loosely with silver rope.
I picked it up and examined it curiously, about to open it when Natsu exclaimed "You're not supposed to open it yet! He said you have to wait until you're back on Hakobe." I smirked, knowing I would open it before then. The trek was long, and my curiosity would have to be quenched sooner or later.
Placing it under my arm, I grinned and ruffled his pink hair. "Alright, I won't open it," I said, "be good while I'm gone, okay? No lighting the Dragonflower bushes on fire." There was a pout, and I laughed, patting his head one last time before turning around. "I'm heading off now!" I called, waving.
"Have a good trip!!!" Natsu exclaimed behind me, and I laughed, starting my walk down the mountain.
I didn't know that would be the last time I saw Natsu like that, smaller than me by over a head. I didn't know that I would never make it back to Igneel to thank him for the gift I was given, and that the next time I saw my little brother, he wouldn't be so little anymore.
My walk down the forested mountain wasn't very difficult or abnormal. I hummed in the midday sun, occasionally using my ice magic on the blooming Dragonflower bushes, whose petals changed color with contact to dragon magic. They were beautiful, with unique patterns forming when my magic hit.
Still, despite my entertainment with the magical blossoms, as the sun danced across the sky, I got bored. There's only so many times you can walk the same path and see the same flora before it gets old. So, I decided that I had waited long enought, and it was a good time to check out the package Natsu had given me.
