"Shh!!! I think he can hear us!" my brother Frank whispered as we walked quietly down the basement steps.

Earlier that night we had heard strange noises coming from the basement, so my brother and I decided to investigate. Little did we know, the things we discovered that night would haunt us forever...

Last summer, my family and I moved to Old City, South Carolina, a small town right outside of Charleston. Though it was a difficult move, my brother and I were very excited.

When we arrived in Old City, we settled into an old white Victorian house on the top of a hill overlooking the ocean. It was a fairly large house with creaky wooden floors and a spiral staircase leading up three flights of stairs.

My mother immediately fell in love with the house when she looked at in on the internet. She researched it for months and made sure we were going to live in a "safe" atmosphere. The owner of the house lived in a small four-bedroom cottage style house with his wife Carol and his dog Shadow.

Peter Molinski was a strange man in his late 60's who rarely came out of his house unless he was going to the store. His dog, on the other hand, loved to roam around our yard and play with our German Shepard Max. My mother and father hired multiple maintenance workers to spruce up the house earlier in the month to make sure everything was ready by the time we moved in.

Within a few weeks of living there, I was already feeling at home in my new surroundings. My brother and I spent our last weeks of summer at the beach and learning how to surf.

As school was approaching, I was eager to stock up on school supplies so one day I decided to go to the local target. I had gotten my license a couple of months prior to moving so being able to drive without supervision was an exciting time in my life.

In late August, I started my junior year at the local high school. Not only was I excited but I was anxious to make new friends. Unfortunately, As the school day wore on I kept getting creepy stares and giggles.

"Look! Isn't that the girl who lives on Cedar Drive?" A girl whispered to her friend as I passed them in the dim hallway. "Oh my gosh! It definitely is! I wonder if she knows?" Her friend whispered back, laughing hysterically.

As I continued to walk down the hall to my locker, I felt very uncomfortable by all of the attention. Was there something on my face? Did I look funny?

I thought about that for days trying to figure out what people were talking about. Not only did I get stared at in school, but people around town gave me strange looks as well.
