Negligence. The biggest thing that has consumed the human race. Negligence to care for the planet they strive off of. Negligence of others, and only reconciled with their own fear of outsiders. It was time for the human race to end. They made a good run, but they were the ones to dig this hole in which they put themselves into. The time for the last resort was upon them. It was time to delve into deep space, even with their xenophobic mindsets, it was all they could do. The only people that were not negligent were the bright scientists of the past.
The air was difficult to breathe. Smoke piled up from large power plants. Every breath that Evan took burned his lungs. It was a common sensation. It was almost to the point that he didn't realize it. This was his naivety, their naivety. The excusing of pain was something that was common for people of this era. People believed that if you ignored the feeling of pain, so would the effects of it would be ignored. They were wrong for, well, obvious reasons.
Evan headed towards his beloved ship, the Odyssey. It was a junker ship at best, but he had faith in it. Ever since he was a young child he raved about setting out and finding new planets to live on. Those hopes all changed when his father died. Mr. White was his mentor, his father, and his only friend in this now near wasteland. His hopes were now thrown into full throttle. He wasn't just trying to find habitable planets for himself and the people of earth, he was doing it for his father.
Evan hopped onto the ships loading dock and walked towards the A.I controls on deck. He flipped the large red switch on the side and out came a small drone with a smiley face programmed into the front of it."Did you really have to wake me up, the last thing I want to do is talk to you after what you said last night," E.ERIE snapped at Evan.
"I know, I shouldn't have called you a useless piece of robotic trash."
"Yeah, you shouldn't have...dick."
"Don't be childish, now let's get to work."
Evan fired up the ships system. The familiar scene of blue, red, and white lights flashing always calmed him down. He flipped on the ignition, the absence of the clicking noise saddened him, he increased the throttle and flew towards his moon base. Even with a junker ship like the Odyssey, it was a smooth ride...well except for E.RRIE's, let's say disrespectful banter.
At the base were four other very small ships, only about big enough to fit two people. Evan and his companion entered the airtight facility. It was incredible that they couldn't use something like this on earth, but many considered it useless.
At the main table sat his four crew members, Diandre, Sparrow, Gaia, and KAITO. Diandre was the big guns of the crew, often training for combat and kept to himself. Sparrow, known mostly as the very short and almost too energetic engineer of the group, always making blueprints to turn the Odyssey into a travel ship. Gaia is the crew's medic and Evan's Co-pilot...and crush. The last member of the team is a synth with the brain of a fighter from the Information Age known only as KAITO. Skilled in stealth and ancient hand to hand combat, any threat is always neutralized in a fraction of a second. KAITO is also the master at confusing the fellow crewmates with pop culture references and music.
Right as Evan sat down, he was bombarded with diagrams, blueprints, and different materials that Sparrow put together. Everything from gun designs to body kits for ships. The rest stayed silent, waiting to hear what Evan had to say."Today is the day that we craft the most powerful ship known to man and set off towards a new home, a new future, and most importantly a new beginning," Evan announced with a heroic voice.
"Yes, finally about time we get to work on this magnificent beast!" Sparrow bellowed as he went to hug Evan.
"Hopefully we can put a good sound system in, can't wait to train with Kendrick booming throughout the ship," KA.ITO added.
