Let me tell you about the night we met.

There was nothing remarkable about the weather, the city, the day. They were all melting together to make their blurred continuum as always.

Clouds sauntered through the blue skies, coexisting with the persistent rumble of background noise, and the minutes were turning into hours at a painfully slow pace.

All was rational, all was unimaginative.

Until two paths that shouldn't have crossed, finally did.

You looked at me, with that suppressed smirk of yours. The one you always use to hide the fact that you're exploding with feeling inside.

I couldn't help but grin back, because although the sky was grey and gloomy, it was like everything around you bloomed with colour, just like my skin when you grabbed my cold hand, encompassing it in yours. Warm like a woollen glove.

You followed me wherever we went, a premature and impulsive layer of trust clouding over your beautifully slanted eyes. It was almost as though they showed me the way, their glow lighting a path of unconditionality in the darkness.

And when the shadows creeped, and the unknown whispered, through those dark and empty streets, somehow I'd feel safe with you beside me. Even though the city was mine and not yours.

There was a euphoria in your smile and an innocence in mine, in this untold tale of fate and luck.

Until reality broke it all.

Darling. I'm still trying to pick up the pieces that you left behind.

And on wonderful sunny days like today, I see you in everything that I do, and in everything that I don't.

When you waved goodbye through the masses of bodies, I made sure to wave too. To help you know that it's okay that you don't remember.

That you don't remember the story, from the life that we'll never live.
