chapter twenty one :: cj's turn

Start from the beginning

"You were right," Josh told CJ when he had finished his shower. He was in only his boxers as he handed his towel to CJ. "I feel a lot better. Dry my back?"

"I told you," CJ dried his back, admiring every freckle that she could make constellations from. "It's always therapeutic."

"I'm so lucky to have you." Josh gushed.

"You would still be air drying if it weren't for me." CJ joked.

Josh was silent.

CJ threw his towel to the side and wrapped her arms around his torso, resting her chin on his shoulder with her chest pressed up against his back.

"I know it's hard, baby." CJ whispered in his ear as she gently swayed back and forth.

"It's nothing, really." Josh replied quietly, feeling like a burden after his girlfriend had went through sometime so much worse.

"It's not nothing," CJ shot back. "They hurt you, Josh."

"I'm sure they didn't mean to-" Josh reasoned.

"Just don't let this be a setback," CJ pleaded. "Don't let this make or break you. You love performing."

Josh nodded.

"And one bad night can't take away a whole future." CJ told him.

"Thank you." Josh took her hands from his abs and held them in his.

"You said there's another show tomorrow, right?"

"Mhm."

"I'm sure you'll do great," CJ told him. "You always do."

"You wouldn't know that." Josh replied.

"What?" CJ pulled her hands from his.

"I'm not trying to be mean," Josh turned around to face her. "It's just that you never come to my shows."

"I told you-"

"When you're ready," Josh finished her sentence. "I know."

CJ was the speechless one that time.

"Don't worry about it." Josh shook his head.

"I wanna support you, Josh," CJ told him. "I really do."

"I shouldn't have brought it up."

"No," CJ tols him. "I want to. I don't know when, but you said it yourself. I'm improving. So maybe sometimes soon."

Josh fell silent again.

"Josh?" CJ shook him. "Are you mad at me? Can you answer me?"

"I'm still thinking about being in that loud crowd." Josh confessed.

CJ, without saying a word, pulled him closer and rubbed his back.

"You won't feel this way forever, y'know."

"I'm just tired," Josh told her. "Can we just go to bed?"

So, the pair got comfortable. Josh was the little spoon, his head resting on CJ's chest as she ran her fingers through his hair.

"We're never done with killing time, can I kill it with you.." CJ quietly sang to Josh, the words giving him a sense of nostalgia, though it only went back a few months, to when him and CJ first danced together. Though he sang it as the lyrics, Josh considers that his first time officially declaring his love for his sweet girlfriend. The words and I like you still run through his head every time he sees or even thinks about her.
