First one that isn't a Marauder's oneshot! Off we go. :)

-------

Ron goggled at Harry.

"What's got into them?

Harry shrugged. He glanced around the room, and then back at Ron.

"Hey, Ron..." he said, an idea occurring to him. "Why don't we just go?"

"We?" Ron looked confused. "Like, you and I?"

"Yeah." Harry shrugged. "Girls go to things like this in groups, just as friends. Couldn't we just... do that? Maybe other people would want to do that. Like Dean and Seamus, or Neville, or somebody."

Ron looked thoughtful. "Yeah, we could." he said. "But you'd still have to find someone to do the opening dance with."

Harry glanced around the room again, as Parvati and Lavender entered. "I could see if Parvati would just do that dance with me."

Ron shrugged. "Sure. Why not?"

Harry stood up, and made his way over to Parvati. "Hey, Parvati?" he asked. "Um, this may be a little bit weird, but... is there any way you'd go to the ball and just, um, just do the opening dance with me?"

"Just the one dance?" Parvati looked a bit confused.

"Yeah." Harry shrugged. "I mean, Ron and I are just going to get a group to go just as friends, but... I still need somebody to do the opening dance with. And you could still go with somebody else, as long as they're fine with it..."

Parvati looked at Lavender, who shrugged, and turned back to Harry. "Sure. Sounds like fun."

"Great." Harry smiled at her. "Thanks."

He made his way back over to Ron and Ginny.

"She said sure." he shrugged. "That's good, right?"

Ron shrugged back. "I think so."

"Great." Harry looked at Ginny. "Do you want to come with us?"

Ginny turned red. "Um, well, I mean... I'm going with Neville... He asked me after he asked Hermione, and I thought, I'm not going to get to go, otherwise..."

"If he wants to come with us, though, you could still join us." Ron offered his sister.

Ginny looked embarrassed. "Oh. Well, okay."

-----

All the boys in their dorm decided that just going as a group of friends sounded like a good idea, as did a few girls from their year, so on Christmas, after a very long, intense snowball fight with Fred, George, and some of the girls in their year, the boys stood in their dorm getting ready, waiting to meet the girls in the Entrance Hall.

"These robes are horrid." Ron declared, staring at himself in the mirror.

Harry couldn't help but agree. They were an odd, brownish-maroon, covered in frills and lace.

"Ask Hermione to help you." Dean advised. "She'll probably have some spell up her sleeve to at least get rid of the lace."

Hermione, however, was nowhere to be found. Seamus managed to help Ron remove the lace and frills, but there was nothing to do about the color. None of them knew how to perform a color-changing charm, so brownish-maroon it was. As the group entered the Entrance Hall, meeting up with the girls, Harry caught sight of Parvati and her sister, Padma. After telling the group he'd see them after the first dance, he hurried over to her.
