Apoo's name was taken with 19th century real-life Chinese pirate Chui A-poo.
He was a Qing Chinese pirate who commanded a fleet of more than 50 junks in the South China Sea
He was wanted with a bounty of $500 or the gruesome murder of two officers. His punishment was lifelong exile to Van Diemen's Land (now Tasmania), but he hanged himself in his cell before it could be carried out.
Apoo's birthday, March 19th, is known as 'Day of music' (音楽の日 Ongaku no Hi), a reference to his musical abilities.
