There was a single parent family living in South-Side Chicago in Englewood, known as the London family. Naomi London, the mother, is 35 years old, Terrance London, her son, is 15 years old and Gabrielle London, her daughter, is 13 years old. Naomi's mother, Tiffany London, lived a different lifestyle than her daughter. Tiffany worked at a company which had well pay. The job bought her a house and car as well as pays all of her bills. Naomi always asked her mother for help with providing things for her children and paying a few of the bills that she couldn't pay at that moment. Although Tiffany was her mother and their grandmother, she could've helped but she didn't. She wanted all of her money to herself and to spend it how she wanted. Naomi had a few guy friends in the gang affiliated neighborhood that she could always depend on a few blocks away. Anything she asked, they would do. Naomi worked two jobs to keep her and her family up to par on things. She cared more for Terrance's appearance than Gabrielle's, so she got Terrance anything he asked for. Gabrielle didn't think too much of it because she still had nice things. It was October 12th, a Thursday morning, and Naomi went to the gas station before going to work. Something was telling her to go in and get a lottery ticket which was for a chance of winning $12,000,000. Naomi has always wanted to move her and her friends out of the hood and by winning the lottery, she could do just that. She played the numbers: 12,5,18,14,7 and 4. Naomi left out of the gas station and went to her car to head to work. Gabrielle and Terrance attends Sherwood Elementary and walks to school every morning because they didn't live far from there and got picked up afterwards. The next morning was something different, Naomi called and told her kids to find something to do after-school and then a way home afterwards cause she had to work late. She also told them that if they couldn't find a ride to walk through the neighborhood where her guy friends lived, in case anything was to happen or just to make sure they were safe.
