I remember so vividly the day of my fifth birthday, my three brothers and I took a trip with our mother. We arrived at the fairy bridge where the carriage stopped, let us out, then just left us there upon mother's request. We only waited a few minutes before the giants came and grabbed us all up except for our mother who stood on the bridge looking at one of the giants with tears in her eyes. The giant looked like he was going to squeeze mother to death, but then he raised her in the air and swung her around in a circle with the biggest smile on his face. We could tell he was hugging her and not trying to hurt her at that point.

One of the giants picked me up, cradling me in his arms gently. The giants carried us under the bridge and into a dark place beyond a wooden door. They placed us on a big table in what I recall looking like a giant kitchen. The table was too tall for any of us to jump off of. Although it did not stop my eldest brother Teddy from trying. When mother and the other giant came into the room where we were sitting, I recall hearing my brother Alvin crying, sitting behind me. When I turned to look at him, he had tears streaming down his face looking toward mother. Simon was sitting next to me with his knees pulled to his chest and his arms wrapped tightly around them with his face buried between.

Mother ran over to the table and wrapped her arms around all four of us. She whispered into our ears that she needed us to go with the nice men and that they would take good care of us. She told us not to worry and that she would be right behind us maybe even beat us to the special place we were going. She told us it was a race to see who would arrive first. She told the giants to take us then turned her face into the chest of the giant she had been hugging on the bridge.

The giants scooped us up again and swiftly exited out the wooden door with us in arms. We traveled along the creek in the arms of the giants. I kept trying to look back to see if I could spot mother following us but I never saw her again that day. The giants kept going further and further, taking us so far away from that bridge. I couldn't help but wonder why mother was not accompanying us on this journey. They walked all day, sometimes even jogging, or running. Up hills, down valleys, over rocks, and even through the forest. We only stopped to rest once, near a big shaded area beside the creek. My brothers and I played in the creek water splashing around. One of the giants laughed at us having so much fun, so "Teddy" as I always so affectionately called my brother Theodore began splashing the giant who had been laughing. To our surprise the giant splashed back and began to play with us in the water.

One of the other giants then joined in before the older giant made them stop, demanding they come along and keep moving. We traveled on until we arrived at the top of a huge rock embedded hill overlooking what appeared to be a giant's castle! They made their way down the side of the hill with all four of us in tow and headed straight for that giant castle. We crossed through the gates and could hear children playing and music and lots of laughter. This place sounded like a lot of fun could be had.

We were met by several very nice ladies who took us into a huge room with four beds and tons of toys! I continued to ask them where our mother was and when she would be here but they refused to answer me. They would simply say soon enough she would be here and leave it at that. I sat on one of the beds most of the evening just watching my brothers playing with all the toys like it was just another day and it was not a big deal at all that our mother was not here.

We finally went to bed when it was too dark to see any longer but one of the ladies decided to stay in the room with us to help comfort us and even told us a bed time story. My brothers were asleep in no time at all but I still had this aching in my heart for mother. Where was she? She said she would be here. What is keeping her? I need her here with us.

Sometime in the night I finally drifted off to sleep. I awoke to the sound of the birds chirping outside the window next to the bed. It was still dark outside but you could see hints of the sun beginning to forge its way up over the edge of the landscape. Everyone else was still asleep as I sat up on my elbows staring out the window while I waited to see if mother had arrived yet.

My brothers were still asleep when the maiden who tucked us in woke and came over to me asking if I needed anything. I again asked if our mother had arrived yet. She said we would go down and check as soon as everyone was up and ready. She asked me about my brothers and what we did for fun back home. I told her about Teddy always being clumsy and Alvin always being goofy, and then about Simon always being so serious. She and I laughed and talked for quite a little while before my brothers finally began to stir a bit.

When all four of us where up and dressed we all went down to the kitchen where there were two long tables, one for humans and one for the giants. We sat at the children's table with several other children ranging in age from very young to much older than us. All of them were quite friendly and talked to us as if they knew us. We all laughed and had a great time while we ate our breakfast. After breakfast we all went into a very large area where there were toys and plants and even a small pond with several really pretty fish swimming around. I met a girl whose name was Samantha; I took a liking to her immediately. She seemed to be quite intelligent and although she was much older than I, we really got along wonderfully. She showed me around the playroom and we sat around talking most of the day.

My brothers had found friends easily. They were all three full of so much energy and never stopped throughout the day. About halfway through the day I asked the maiden who was watching over us if she had any word about our mother yet to which she replied not yet but she was certain she would be here very soon.

Sometime after we ate lunch I was taken to an enormous chamber at the bottom of a long staircase, placed in a chair where one of the maidens sat next to me explaining that I would need to be brave and simply do what I was I meant to do. I did not completely understand what she was saying to me but I knew this must be the reason we had been brought here to begin with. I was not scared but I did feel a little nervous. A few minutes later one of the Giants entered the room and asked the maiden to leave so he could speak with me. I began to get very nervous but I did not want to show it. I looked him right in the eyes and asked him what I was here for and what he needed me to do. He smiled a genuine smile and chuckled a bit. My nervousness began to subside at the sound of his chuckle.

I sat there as he looked at me and asked me some questions.

He asked me if I had ever felt like I could fly. I told him yes my whole life. I told him I had often dreamed of flying all over the land.

He asked me if I knew what a fairy was. I told him yes. Our mother had spoken of them often as a small flying person with wings. She had told us they were beautiful and kind and full of mischief.

He then asked me if I felt like I could change into a fairy right now. I said no, but I had never tried before. Which was a complete lie, I had tried every day since I could remember but it never seemed to happen.

He then asked me to concentrate very hard and try to become so small, like a bumble bee. I closed my eyes and concentrated, trying to will myself to become a fairy. After a few seconds I heard him gasp loudly. When I opened my eyes I could see him looking down at me in awe. That is when I realized I was hovering a few inches above the ground and I did not even have my wings. I was so small and I felt like I should take off and fly. But of course without my wings that would be impossible. He smiled at me with the biggest and brightest smile I think I had ever seen.

He asked me if I could change back now. I told him I did not want to but I was certain that I could. He smiled again and began to tell me that from this day on, I should practice taking my fairy form every day. But I should never do it in front of anyone. It must be kept a secret from all until the day the fairies come to take me to their fairyland.
