"He hurt you." her grandfather said in an angry manner as she nodded her head. "You loved him." her grandmother noted, knowing she wouldn't have slept with just anyone, it wasn't Kate, she had to love someone before she even decided to commit to something. The fact that she'd agreed to reach out afterwards said enough. "I do." Kate admitted as she ran her hand through her hair.
"How long have you known?" her grandfather asked her as she leant her head on her fist. "almost six weeks now." Kate confessed with a small sigh. "I thought about taking it away, but I love him, he may not love me, but I do. And I can't make an innocent little baby pay for what it's father has done." Kate explained as they nodded their heads, knowing they would support her in any shape or form.
"Why don't you come back here, we can help you?" Her gran started as Kate shook her head. "Gran, I'm finally in London, I'm living my dream, not the one I always thought I would have travelling the world. but I'm finally feeling at home there. I can't give up cause I'm pregnant, I can't." she told them, making it clear that nothing would change, but the fact that she was going to have a baby by herself.
***
the following day at Christmas dinner in the evening the table burst out in chaos. Kate had just made a run to the toilet when smelling the fondue, her stomach upset by it. She'd had to confess a lot earlier in the evening than she had planned to do so. If her family did one thing good beside judging people it was throwing family dinners. Just like now, family, friends considered family all present, a group of about 30 people looked at her like she'd gone crazy when she declared she was pregnant.
Her sister started to laugh, a figure who'd been her father figure for so many years after leaving for a few years to then return was laughing as well with a few cousins once removed and so on. "So that's why you go on holiday's to get yourself knocked up?" Ignace, the once father figure asked her as she felt the tears come to her eyes. If she'd been feeling Lonely in London, it was nothing like this, to be mocked, ridiculled and insulted by her family.
"It wasn't planned." Kate defended herself as all people were talking to her through each other. Some were insults, others were ordering her to abort the child, others were telling her that they'd always known she was a screw up. Ignace pointed out that only that summer he'd pointed out that she wouldn't amount to anything ever in her life. that she was a screw up and always would be one. Pushing her chair back, she raced to the hallway, pulled on her coat and left the house. She'd forgotten her phone so she couldn't call Mia, not that she would bother her now. Going around the block, halfway behind her grandparents house, in a darkened street where only fields lay, she sunk into the muddy earth, her legs up to her chest, her one hand on her stomach as she rested her head on her knees.
She couldn't stop the sobs as they left her chest, crying for Glen who'd thrown her to the side. She was a simple notch on his belt, the words of that George guy had confirmed it. Her family was insulting her, throwing her insecurities of never being able to achieve anything in her face. Insulting her for being a whore who'd gotten pregnant by a stranger. That she hadn't been able to keep her legs closed for anyone, that it surprised them that she hadn't ended up pregnant before. God she'd only had two guys, her ex of two years ago and that had only been a relationship for about 6 months when he'd started doing drugs, she'd stopped seeing him immediately. And then there was Glen, with her past of her father abusing her she didn't just trust any guy.
Feeling the coldness seeping into her body she headed back to her grandparents not ready to face anyone yet. But she was pregnant and getting cold, she had to think of her little one as well, she couldn't get sick. Unbeknownst to her, her grandparents had ripped all of them a new one. Along with her mum which would later surprise her the most of all. Walking back inside in a muddy pants and coats, she went to sit in her bedroom. Her stomach rumbled as she got hungry. "Hey." her mum said from the doorway
