The heads of department were doing their thing and she had every faith in them. They'd been doing what they'd been doing for years and it enabled her to be a bit more flexible. To be even more committed to other things. Right now that was doing the girlly things in wedding planning with Meghan and Kate.
Last night had been the usual hellish treatment of Kate with her family. Her sister had seemed to have come around since becoming a mum of her own. having a fussy child of her own seemed to have softened her towards Kate and the situation she must have been in. Her mum and grandparents had been playing buffer all night between her and the rest of her family.
The digs had simply kept coming, you'd think that after five years, they'd be tired of it. No such luck, they kept insulting her in front of her son and she'd literally gone to the room she'd been using. She didn't want her son to hear any more insults or that he hadn't been wanted by her family.
Her youngest brother often didn't understand what was going on completely but he still accepted her. You'd think since her mum had five children with three different man her family would have been open. Yea right all of them were the same. All of them wanted to mock her for the mistake that she made. And all in all, it hadn't even been a mistake and if it was, it was the best mistake she'd ever made. She still remembered the time that she had told them all she was pregnant. Man had that been a fun evening.
At nine weeks pregnant she'd headed home for Christmas, she'd had her check up two weeks ago and the baby was growing and perfectly healthy. The moment she'd arrived at the airport Mia had wrapped her arms tightly around her and assured her that she would help her in any way possible.
"I can't believe this is happening." Kate admitted as Mia drove her to her grandparents where she'd stay during the week. She'd been raised by them and they were everything to her, she was going to tell them first when she got home. "It is, you'll be a great mum Kate, I just know it." Mia told her as the two caught up a little before Mia had dropped her off and headed home as well. She'd been swepped up by her grandparents the moment she'd walked inside.
"You look a bit thin don't you?" her gran worried, she'd always been a bit chubbier. but she'd lost quite a bit of weight due to her torturous morning sickness. She'd lost about 10 kg since her last weighing. it was kicking her ass so hard, she felt weak all the time. but she couldn't do anything about it, but bite through it and continue as if nothing was going on.
"I'm alright gran." she assured her grandmother, sitting down at the kitchen table with them, her leg tugged under her as her gran pulled out a bottle of cava. "not for me gran." she told her with a shake of her head. "Just one, you're home, we need to celebrate." her gran told her as Kate shook her head. "I can't gran." Kate noted, looking at her grandfather and noticed those eyes of his studying her like she was one of the exhibits at the museum.
"Why not?" her grandfather asked her as she let out a heavy sigh and dropped her head a little. "I'm pregnant gramps." she told her grandfather, lifting her head, scared for their reaction.
"How, when, who?" her grandmother asked as she sunk on the chair at the table. "Greece, I had a holiday romance you could say. We'd promised to reach out when we came back, he obviously didn't and doesn't want to. We slept together on our last day there, I'm almost ten weeks gran." Kate confessed to her grandparents as she tried to surpress the sob building up in her chest as she looked at her grandparents through tearful eyes.
"Come here." Her grandfather said, seeing how tough his granddaughter had it. She burst out in tears in his chest as he tried to comfort his granddaughter. "Who did this?" her grandmother asked as she too tried to comfort her granddaughter. "It doesn't matter gran, he doesn't want me." Kate told them after a little while when she was able to compose herself.
