It all started because I woke up gasping for air, literally gasping for air. I couldn't breath and when I tried taking a huge breath in I ended up coughing up blood in the next few moments. My feet padded against the wooding floor boards as I rushed down the hall and into the bathroom. The door slamming into the wall knocking the painting onto the floor. I didn't make it to the toilet in time, the blood splatter evident on the white sink instead.

My hands began shaking as I tried catching my breath, the distance sounds of my name being called came from the other room where I know my parents were.

And I knew I had woken up in a nightmare.

A literal nightmare, that's what my life had turned into.

The car ride to the emergency room was filled with my coughing and the rustling of a plastic bag, the worried glances my mother had made me feel even worse. My lungs screamed at me for air as I tried to slow my heart beat down by breathing deeply. The waiting room was spinning by the time I was finally called back to see a doctor.

" You have cancer, I'm sorry to say Ms. Blake. You're in the late stages of your lung cancer. You have anywhere from one month to half a year to live now."

My mouth dropped open in shock as I sat on the doctor's chair. The plastic bag I was holding a had fallen to the cold tile floors, splattering the blood everywhere. My mother next to me let out a muffled scream as my dad held her. My eyes drifted towards the red spots on the floor, their placements making me nauseated. My head was throbbing as I tried processing this situation.

" I'm sorry, you must have the wrong patient. I mean I feel fine, I never smoked, no one smokes in my family. I run track, I'm vegan, I don't drink any sodas. So you must have the wrong girl." I said so sure of myself as I looked at the doctor, his wrinkles settling deep into his forehead as he frowned at me.

" I'm very sorry Cassidy, but your case is very rare. I've never seen a 18 year old with stage 4 lung cancer who lives as healthy of a lifestyle as you do. It's truly impossible, you might want to speak to your family and make yourself at home. Take the rest of the year off from school, tell your friends Whats happening." He said handing me a list of prescription pills I needed to get.

I stood up from the chair and smiled at my parents who sat there crying and in pain.

" Hey cheer up you guys, it's not like I'm going to drop dead any second. " I joked making the room grow somber as everyone processed my words, which in turn made my mother sob even louder.

" At least now you have an excuse to do your bucket list." Dad joked, his grey eyes holding back tears as I cracked a smile at him.

" Now I can sit in front of the TV and eat 40 chicken mc nuggets without you guys harassing me." I said rolling my eyes at them making my dad laugh.

The horrible news settling deep into my gut, tears began welling up in my eyes as I fell to the floor. The echoes of my screams silenced the room. My vision became blurred, someone wrapped their arms around my back and rubbed circles around. But that didn't help the immense pain in my chest and soul. I was going to die within the next year.

" I did everything right." I screamed into my knees as tears erupted down my face, my hair sticking to my cheeks.

" I know honey. It shouldn't have been you, but god has a pla...." My mother said her hands trying to grasp mine.

" God? God has a plan for me? That's your way of coping? You know what? Fuck your god he's a man made construct so that people don't feel so alone on this fucking rock in space. God isn't fucking real get that through your mind mom. If he was real we did he choose me of all people to kill? Riddle me that Kelsey.  I've gone to church every Sunday, I've helped charities, I did everything your god said to do. Where is he huh? If he was so fucking real why do the good people suffer and everyone else enjoys life? Huh? " I screamed pushing my mom away as she sat there in pure shock at me cursing and disrespecting god.
