**Chapter Nine**

**LARRY POV**

Almost seven weeks later us guys mama's, Angela (Ang) and us guys piled into our three axle hummer (see top pic) and left the city with Kirk at the helm. We had returned home four days earlier after being in Japan for six weeks undertaking photoshoots, filming commercials and leading workshops.

While there we kept in contact with everyone and organised a road trip through Nirvana Pines and Nirvana Alps. Our ma contacted Sapphire (Sapp), Kaitlyn (Kat) and them for advice. We were emailed a list of clothing items to purchase which mainly consisted of thermals and recommended stores to purchase them from, which turned out to be military surplus stores.

Confused we called our ma, she explained the closer we traveled to Nirvana Alps the temperatures would become cooler because Nirvana Alps is surrounded by ice capped mountains. Still confused we went online to check out Nirvana Alps and were shocked to discover the warmest temperature recorded was 12.3ºC (54.4ºF), it was then we realised why the cold never affected Sapp, Kat, Teddy (Ted) and Jason (Jay), but concern for our mama's became us. We called our ma, we were reassured they would be fine as their clothing lists included "extra" items

Entering a store in Japan with an interpreter, we couldn't explain what we were looking for and showed the guy the list, he lead us to the items. We looked at them with raised eyebrows. They were thin, almost see through and whisper light. That is until the guy handed us a pamphlet explaining the items. They were designed by the military to be worn as layers without restricting body movements. Not convinced, we tried one on and were impressed. The top moulded to our bodies like a second skin. We instantly felt the warmth. We moved about stretching and wiggling, the item stayed put. Needless to say, we picked out double the amount required and moved to the counter with our bundles. Our interpreter asked if we had a military card, we handed them over and were shocked when we received a 60% discount. The interpreter explained because we were purchasing from a military surplus store, everything is discounted to cardholders and military personnel

The day before we left we were all at ours, our ma invited Sapp, Kat, Ted, Jay, Rosetta (Rose), Linda (Lin), Thomas (Tom) and Eric over to give us the "Talk" before we travelled into unknown territory. We were guided with packing our bags including an emergency back pack and how to pack our vehicle.

Us guys were shown how to place on and remove snow chains and to change tyres. To say we were impressed was an understatement, the main thing we learnt was team work.  Our vehicle was fitted with a beacon and each of us were handed a card with CB channels and jargon.

Over a meal we were informed to always ask staff about the weather and roading conditions before continuing on our journey and to ask staff at any places we stop at along the way, to not exceed the speed limits and drive to the conditions, we all looked at them strangely
Sapp: Nirvana Pines is a beautiful, peaceful place with breathtaking views, fresh crisp air and tantalising sounds rendering those who visit to zone out . . . Relax . . . Forget they are in a forest with hidden dangers and is home to free, roaming wildlife, which is why we also recommended y'all purchase personal beacon buttons and satellite phones
Tom: The buttons emit a sound audible to wildlife letting them know you are not a threat to them and are also emergency beacons. Should y'all become separated, they can assist y'all to find each other or lead y'all back to your vehicle
Eric: Your own personal SIM cards can be inserted into the satellite phones so you can remain in contact with the outside world, they are also emergency phones directly linked to channel 19 - we raised an eyebrow
Kat: Its the CB emergency channel . . . The only channel that cannot be used for anything but emergency calls and the only channel which will interrupt all channels for everyone to hear if emergency crews are about or instructions are given out - we nodded in understanding
