"Well I thought it was good!" you stated walking into the Avengers Tower.

"It was completely unrealistic. Did you even pay attention?" your best friend, Bucky, exclaimed as you pressed the elevator button. You mindlessly watched the floor numbers above the elevator door go down as Bucky rattled on about how far-fetched the action movie you just watched together was. You glance over at him in the middle of his rant for admittedly a little too long. You couldn't help but admire his features that took your breath away almost daily.

You joined the avengers nearly 3 years ago and instantly connected with Bucky the most. Ever since then your friendship has been growing more and more. But these past few months, you couldn't help but start to feel like you wanted more than just friendship. It's a feeling that's been blossoming inside you that won't quit no matter what.

You tried telling yourself it was only temporary because you didn't want the friendship you cherished so deeply to change or end. So you buried it deep inside you. But sometimes, in moments like these, you couldn't help but imagine what it would be like. To kiss him. Hold him. To-

ding!

You were snapped out of your thoughts.

"C'mon y/n, you know you only liked it because it had a smidge of romance in the end."

"Hey! Not true! I mean yea some of the fighting was a bit off, but it's a movie. You can't have it all," you said acting as if you weren't just imagining making out with your best friend.

"Whatever you say."

You carried on in small talk about the film as the elevator stopped and the two of you walked towards your bedrooms. You didn't know how tired you were until your feet were basically dragging on the floor.

"Don't fall asleep until you get to your bed, y/n."

"Shut up. How was I supposed to know the movie would be that long. It's almost 2 in the morning," you said sulking.

You finally reached the door and practically fell into the room. You took one last glance at Bucky. He was conveniently in the room next to yours and you noticed hesitation in his eyes as he gripped the door knob.

"You alright Buck?" you said, slightly worried.

"Uh...yea! Sorry, i'm just really tired," he said as his expression changed almost instantly.

"Alright, goodnight!" You smiled at him and shut the door quietly, not wanting to wake anyone else in the hallway. You jumped onto your bed, sighing and already drifting off into a light sleep...

>Time Skip<

"You know I love you right?" Bucky looked at you, his smile fading. His eyes were beginning to fill with rage. You didn't recognize the man in front of you, the man you called your best friend.

"What? Why would you say that?" Bucky said in anger, "Do you realize how fucked up things between us are gonna be now?" He was practically yelling at you. Tears were filling your eyes. The deepest sense of regret filled your mind and you broke down, darkness caving in all around you. Looking up, you realized Bucky was gone. Everything was gone. You were scared.

"Bucky? Bucky?!" You yelled after him, not knowing what to do, "B-BUCKY?"

"Y-y/n. Please, help me." You heard a faint voice call out, "HELP! PLEASE!" You recognized the voice as Bucky's. He sounded so hurt, so scarred. He was screaming louder and louder. You needed to help him.

You woke up in a sweat. Realizing what had happened wasn't real. You had had anxiety dreams along those lines before, but they had never gotten that bad. What changed? Why was Bucky screaming in that dream?

You checked your bedside clock: in 3:46 AM. You got out of bed to get water from the kitchen, a million thoughts rushing through your head. Walking out of the doorway and into the hall, you stopped for a few seconds at Bucky's door. A tiny voice in your head telling you to go in. What did you have to lose?

Your feet carried you away from the door and down the hall until you heard a familiar voice.

"Help, please. HELP ME!" It was coming from Bucky's room. Immediately you ran back and barged in. He was on his bed. Shirt off and sweating profusely while shivering. His covers were on the floor and he was, crying? You had only seen him cry a few times before but never to this extent. He was still crying for help as you rushed to his aid. You grabbed his broad shoulders and tried shaking him a few times.

"Bucky! Buck please wake up!" You were almost crying yourself, seeing him in this state broke your heart. He suddenly jolted his head up, looking around the room. He looked as if the world was about to collapse on him. You rubbed his shoulder calmly and he looked into your eyes, realizing you were at his side.

"Buck, are you oka-" He jumped into your arms, his head resting below your neck. He cried softly into your chest, wetting your shirt with tears. You rubbed his back softly and held the back of his head, whispering to him that it was ok. That you were here. You don't know how long the two of you stayed like that. But you didn't care. You would hold on to him for as long as he needed.

You felt him slowly lift his head and you let go, still rubbing his back. He looked down as if he were ashamed.

"Hey," you looked down and made sure he was looking at you, "Tell me what happened. You know I'm here for you." He sniffed and looked down again.

"I-" It took him a second to gather the words, "I'm having more nightmares about...About the Winter Soldier." He looked as if he were about to break. You wrapped your arms around his neck. This time he hugged you tightly around your waist, resting his head in the crook of your neck. You knew he struggled talking about this topic in general and that right now all he needed was for someone to just be there.

The two of you let go after a moment.

"Do you think you want to go back to sleep?" You asked him.

"Yea, but...could you maybe stay with me. F-for a bit..." He looked extremely embarrassed.

"Of course, Buck. Anything." He picked his covers off of the floor and the two of you got settled in. You could tell he was trying to give you as much space as possible. You had had sleepovers before, but this felt so different. Before you had the chance to think it over your mind drifted away into a dreamless sleep.
