She'd tried to call Glen about every other day but had slowly given up since the weekend. It had been about three weeks since their final day in Crete, two and a half weeks since their now seemingly empty promises. She'd made the move here and promised each other to reach out to each other once they'd gotten home. she'd fulfilled her promise, he hadn't though. Then again, she was an eager 24 years old, eager to prove herself to everyone and everything that she was smart enough to play with the big boys. He'd been a 34-year-old, ten year age gap, well she should have known that she would have simply been a notch on his belt. He probably slept left and right with all his fans as well. She'd simply fallen for the trick and lost her heart during the course of it.

Well, she'd learned a new lesson, that was for certain. Rising from the ground, she reached for her toothbrush and went into the shower to get ready for another long day at work.

Two days later she was sitting at her desk of off Edward's office, he was the head of the geology department and she had her own office attached to his. He'd seen the eagerness the moment she'd set foot in his office whilst at school. He'd wanted to feed that and encourage it, he'd been looking for someone to be his protegé and he'd found one in Kate.

It was long after the museum had closed, Kate wanted to work a bit more on her new paper she was writing. Edward had asked her to teach at Oxford next week, which just so happened to coincide with her new paper she wanted to write. The museum itself was a great library and had so many books and papers, all she needed to get started as far as she was concerned. She was planning on travelling to Argentina next week after the lesson to go into the field.

"You look like shit." Mia pointed out as Kate sat in front of her computer, her hands in her hair, holding up her head. "I feel like it, doesn't mean you have to point it out Mi. the last thing I need is for everyone to think I can't perform here." Kate explained as she gazed out of the door, needing to be sure no one was around. She'd just started and her constantly being ill through the night and mornings wasn't making things any easier. She was exhausted and on the border of collapsing. She just didn't want to admit defeat, what would everyone think of her if she were to be absent within her first month.

"What have you got?" Mia asked in concern, sure her friend had been sad when the man she'd fallen in love with continued to ignore her. but she didn't think it would get to her that much, yes Kate was a passionate person. Once she went for something it was with her entire heart, there wasn't something she wouldn't do. When her heart was in it, there was simply no stopping her. She'd seen it happen between her and Glen as well She wanted to find him and kill him for hurting her friend, but she'd get over it. He was just another lesson needing to be learned as Kate had pointed out.

"I'm vomiting all night, in the morning, nauseous throughout the day. I'm exhausted and I just want to go to bed. My back is sore, my boobs feel like their about to explode, this morning I couldn't even shower, it hurt when I was under the water." Kate admitted, there had never been a subject they couldn't talk about, they'd been best friends since they'd been 7. They could talk about everything and right now she was at her wit's end.

"Have you missed your period?" Mia asked her, hoping her suspicions weren't true. how Kate hadn't thought about it, was beyond her, maybe she didn't want to see it what was going on. "When have I ever been on time?" Kate asked her in an captain obvious tone, she was the most untamed person when it came to it. Sometimes it would stay away for months and then there were times she could get them twice a month. Well maybe her period was coming, her breast were always a bit sore and tender a few days before.

"have you done a pregnancy test?" Mia asked her as a look of horror crossed Kate's face. She hadn't even considered that her and Glen's only time being intimate could have ended with a pregnancy. As she listed all the symptoms up in her head it made sense. She couldn't be, she couldn't be pregnant with Glen's baby. He didn't want to talk to her, didn't even pick up his phone once. she'd told Mia everything when she'd realised that Glen didn't pick up his phone when she called. She didn't judge her or anything, that's what she loved about her friend. She never judged ever, she may have her thoughts and they spoke their mind to each other, they were dead honest. but never did they judge each other. Her family on the other hand, well they were the source of judgy people. God, they'd have a field day with this if she were to be pregnant. Not that her mum was the one to talk, she'd been 17 when Kate had been born.
