A Spark Of Hope

End of The Road (coming soon)

"I'm stuck Henry just give up!" My mom said to my dad. But he wouldn't listen. I was frozen in place I couldn't do anything as I watched my parents and our car hanging off the cliff. Then it fell. Something inside me broke. My soul was being swallowed by the darkness. The sound of sirens didn't move me. The officer told me to get up, but I didn't. There were helicopters everywhere news vans too. "What's your name!?" The officer asked. "EMILY BAKER!!!" The cashier handed me my coffee. It was 10 years since my parent's death. I always had my daily dose of coffee at 7 a.m. I was a "Typical California girl" I just moved to L.A. a few months ago. On my way out of the coffee shop, I bumped into some guy. "Oh my God, I'm so sorry." He looked up at me and smiled. He pushed my blonde hair out of the way. "I'm Jake and these are your books." He said. "Thanks, I'm Emily." It was happening again; the darkness was consuming my mind. I was on the edge of the cliff. There stood my mom and dad. They were crying. My mom looked up at me. "Why would you let this happen to us?" My mom asked. "This is your fault." My dad said. My mom stepped forward and pushed me off the cliff. "You okay?" Jake asked. "I got to go." I said and ran out. I went to my favorite diner, "Pops." It was owned by my grandpa. "Hey Em." He said. He wasn't my real grandpa, but he was the only person in my life I could call my family. "Your regular is on your table." I sat down to eat my burger and to my surprise, Jake walked through the door. We made awkward eye contact. He smiled. He walked up to me and said: "Hey, I swear I'm not stalking you." I didn't know what to say. Cute boys don't talk to girls like me. Everyone thought I was that weird girl, but they had no idea what was happening in my life. I hated that people judge me even though they didn't know me. "UGLY, FAT, MENTAL, STUPID." It's what they use to call me in school. "Beautiful." He said. "What?" I asked. He sat down next to me. "You are beautiful." He said. It was like he read my mind. "You're making a mistake. You don't understand, no one likes the weird girl." I said. Before I could say anything else, pops threw a burger patty at me. "Shut up and kiss him!" He said. Jake laughed. I wasn't going to do that. "We should hang out at that new bar downtown." Jake said. I was still star struck. "I don't drink," I said. "It's a date!" Pops yelled. Jake smiled, got up and left. It's been 3 days since what happened at the diner. I see Jake walking on the street and a red-headed girl started waving at him then he freaked out and walked away. He saw me and started to walk towards me. "Did you see that?" He asked. "Well L.A. people are weird." I said. He laughed. I couldn't believe that someone liked me. It was a weird feeling. It was like we were connected. "We're still on for our date, right?" he asked. I just shook my head because I was still amazed that he thought I was beautiful. A few hours later I met him at the bar. We began to make crazy plans. "How about we run away to a different state? Let's get away from these weird L.A. people." He said. I was too star struck to think straight so I agreed. "Good morning babe." Jake said. It's been 4 years since we ran off together. "Hey, I made pancakes." I said. I made them for breakfast every morning. "Emily, you make the best pancakes in the world." He said. "Thanks, Jake serious question. How can you still love me if you know my past?" I asked. "I don't care about your past because you're my future." He said. I almost threw up on him. He was so corny, but I loved him. He told me about his alter-ego and his secret ability to show people their memories when we first met. "Okay, I'm going on my run." I said. I started my run then I passed out. I see my parents again. "You see and hear what you want." My mom said. She stepped forward and pushed me off the cliff. I had no idea what that meant. I woke up. It was dark. It must have been hours since I passed out. I heard voices, talking in a different language. I was tied up an in the back of a truck. I passed out again. I woke up in a few hours and seen snow and a sign that read Moscow. Then, of course, I blacked out again. I had no idea what was going on. Then I woke up to a red-headed woman. She looked my age. "I'm so sorry. I'm doing this to protect my husband and myself." That wasn't what I was expecting. Her blood red hair and her ocean blue eyes threw me off. She kidnapped me, then she apologizes? "I don't understand." I said. "There is this man, he wants power and he is using me to get to it." She said. She helped me get up. "My parents gave me up for adoption because I wasn't a boy and here I am." She said. "I'm an orphan too." I said. "Me and you have to get to Moscow, now." She said. I nodded my head. "Listen, everything that I say and do after this moment it's all an act." She explained to me that she was going to give me something that would put me to sleep. When I fell asleep, I saw Nick. I was floating above him. I had no idea what was going on. He looked scared, so I smiled to reassure him that everything would be alright. I woke up and we were in Russia. We got off the plane and took a Taxi to an old shoe factory. When we walked in there was cloth on all the tables. It wasn't a shoe factory it was a casino. There was a grand staircase and Angelica's throne. "A throne fit for a queen." I said. She laughed as we walked up to her chair. There was a bag and a note that read, "Do with these as you will." With a smiley face at the bottom. Angelica thought for a while then said, "The Moscow Kremlin! If I blow a hole in it, then people will definitely know who I am." It was a good idea. We waited until people started to leave. We went around the building putting up C-4 on the walls. We walked away then boom. In a matter of seconds, there were police cars and news vans everywhere. Just like at the cliff. Angelica's phone rang. "I don't know who you are, but I don't want to be a part of what you are doing anymore." She said. Whatever the man on the phone said next, it devastated her. She fell to the ground. Then Angelica's husband came running through the crowd. "You okay babe?" he asked. "The man on the phone, says he is my father." She said. My heart dropped. The crowd started to yell. "WHO ARE YOU?!" Angelica stood up and said, "I'm Angelica Rose." The crowd went silent. A police officer walked up to her and asked, "Are you the daughter of Masha Rose?" "Yes, yes I am." Everyone backed up some including me. Masha Rose was the Hitler of our generation, she was evil. Newscasters started to ask her questions, "Where is your mother now?", Did she put you up to this?" We started to walk away, then Angelica turned around and said, "You know where to find me." We got in the car and drove off. "You must be Emily, I'm Alex." "Nice to meet you." I said. We got to the Casino there was a lot of cars outside. We walked inside, it was packed, there were people everywhere. There was a man on Angelica's throne. There was a woman standing next to him, Angelica and her had the same colored hair. We walked up the stairs and the man, who I'm assuming is Angelica's father said, "Welcome to the family." Hi Angelica." Masha said. "GET OUT, BOTH OF YOU GET OUT." Angelica yelled. Angelica took me to a room with a huge metal door. "He's going to try to kill me." She said. I was confused. "When you were sleeping on the plane, I made a few calls. I'm running away and changing my name, you can come too if you want. I have to protect my baby, and the only way to do that is to get away from her." She said. "You have a baby?" I asked. "Yes, but only Alex knows, Hope is with him now." She tied me up. Then stuck a needle in my arm. She walked out and then I blacked out. I was in my old room. I was a little girl again. I heard my parents calling my name. "Emily!" I was scared. I started to cry louder and louder. It was getting colder and the sound of my name got closer. It wasn't my parents it was Jake. He touched my shoulder and I woke up. "Emily are you okay?" Jake asked. I was playing a part, so I didn't respond. Unwilling I looked up at him. I stared at him. Then in the blink of an eye he was me. I didn't have control over my body anymore. Angelica walked in and looked at me. "He passed out again." She said. Her hair covered half of her face. "With his power, I can have the world at its knees." She said pulling a syringe out of her pocket. She injected Jake with it. I blinked, and he was himself again. I hated seeing Angelica like this. "I'm not helping you." Jake said. Angelica laughed then she pulled out a fake gun and aimed it at me. "NO, I'll do whatever you want." He said. Angelica turned around and said, "Bring him in." Jake stood up and hit her on the back of the head with a chair. That wasn't the plan. He turned towards me, smiled and passed out. How heroic. I got up to make sure they were okay. Neither one answered. I passed out. There they were, my parents. "You didn't let this happen to us," My mom said. "You know this isn't your fault, right?" My dad asked. They walked up to me and instead of pushing me off, they hugged me. They didn't hate me I made it all up. "It's time for us to go," My mom said. They got in the car and drove down the road and disappeared in the distance. At my foot, there was a note that read, "We love you."
