Sitting in my reading nook with a piece of cake and a book I haven't read yet is the best spot for me to be. It's quiet, I'm alone, and I'm not outside. My mom on the other hand, doesn't like my reading nook because i'm 'antisocial while I'm in it and not making any friends.'. Shows what she knows, I'm making friends with fictional characters, that counts.
"(Y/n)." Mom opened the door to my little world. "Time to go outside, it's three. You're allowed back in at five. Two hours of outside."
I got out with my dirty plate and fork and stood beside her as she closed the door. "Do you think other moms have to lock their daughters outside in order for them to get enough sunlight everyday?"
Mom let out a sigh, "No. No they don't." She took my plate and fork and placed them in the sink. She ushered me to the front door. "I'll see you in two hours as of... now." She locked the door behind me and yelled at my brothers to close and lock the windows.
I looked around at the front yard. The sun was too hot for what I was wearing; a black jacket, a light blue long sleeved shirt, blue skinny jeans, and my black slip on vans. The sun seemed to have it out for me, like even though I've barely been outside for a minute it wanted to burn me, so I flipped it off. I normally would have sit on my pouch for the two hours doing nothing, but I noticed a bookstore that I haven't been in.
I walked into town, avoiding people I knew and avoiding people I didn't. I don't discriminate. The entrance to the bookstore was in a old building, I was surprised that I've never noticed it before. There was an old, graying man behind the front counter.
"Hello Miss, Welcome to Voyager Book Store... Anything I can help you find miss?" He sounded frail, like at any moment he was going to fall apart, although he looked sturdier than that.
"Um, can you help me find some Young Adult fantasy books?"
"Around that stack there Miss, but I should warn you miss, my books will allow you to transport to new worlds, and new times." His voice went cold at the warning.
"Okay, but that's why I like books so much, they allow you to leave a crappy reality and go to a world where everything ends up okay." I waved as I walked past the large stack of ageing books. The shelves on the wall were stacked so high with books there was a latter to help reach the top few shelves. Books were stacked on the floor and on tables, everywhere there was room. There were some newer books scattered across the older yellow books. The Hunger Games, Six of Crows, Riverdale, Supernatural. There was one that caught my interest- Voltron, Legendary Defender. At the end of this little pathway of books there was a small, faded red chair you could lounge in and read. I sat down in the chair with my legs to the side. I opened the book and a bright flash of yellow light sucked me in.
