"We're so sorry." Amy says. I wave her off.
"We'll be fine." I assure her.

"Here you guys go." Ethan walks into the room and hands both Leo and I a bag of chips with a water bottle.
"Thanks." I say, tossing him a smile.
"No problem." He smiles back and sits next to me and Leo goes over to play with the dogs.
"You should just stay here another night and head out in the morning." Mark suggests. I shake my head.
"I couldn't do that. We need to find this place by May." Mark raises his eyebrow.
"You mentioned that when you left. What place are you looking for?" He asks.
"Well uh..." I trail off.

They're only accepting so many more people. What if I tell them and they get there before Leo and I? Then we wouldn't be able to get in and would still be running around every single day....Don't tell them.

"We're trying to get to Washington" I lie. "I've heard they have supplies over there until the end of May." He nods.
"Sounds like a good plan, but Washington is so far away." He tells me.
"That's why we have to stay on the move." I say. Amy stands up.
"I'm gonna head outside and look for edible fruit around the outside of the forest." She says.
"I'll come with you." Both her and Mark then head out, leaving Ethan and I alone.
"I-um....sorry about the whole...you know..pointing your own gun at you thing." A light blush of embarrassment appears on his face. I eat a chip and shrug.

"Do what you gotta do to survive, but what was that eye thing you were talking about?" I ask. He looks away from me as if he's contemplating is he sound tell me or not.
"Well, Mort cé-...Cannies and survivors have different eyes." He says.
"What do you mean?" He continues.
"They have a weird red line that goes through their pupil and survivors don't." I nod and sit by drink.
"How did you figure that out?" He frowns.
"Our friend found it out right before she died." I nearly choke on my water.
"I'm...so sorry." I say between coughs. "Are you okay?" Ethan asks as he lightly pats me on the back.
"I'm fine."

I wave him off and he pulls his hand away. Silence. I turn my head to say something when I see him smiling at Leo and the dogs playing together. He kind of looks to be lost in the moment.

I wish I could just forget all my worries for even just a second.

Glasses guy turns back to face me, probably because he could feel me staring at him.

"Is there something on me?" He asks, bringing his hand to his face.
"No!" I quickly respond and look away.

God Y/n. Why are you acting like someone caught you in the act of something horrible.

"There's more to drink in the kitchen if you want any. I'm gonna go help Tyler with something." I nod as he walks away to the horrible outside world.

Ethan

I exit the house, feeling Y/n's gaze on me as I do so.

Who is she?

I mean that as in, what happened to her to make her the way that she is.

She doesn't seem mean at all. Yet, she shrugs off things so casually and can be a bit aggressive.....maybe she's just over protective.

I spot Tyler waling over to a small shed behind the homey looking house. He has a few wooden planks on his shoulder as he carries them in. I do a slow jog towards him to see why he stopped patching up the broken window.

"Tyler." The man turns around after leaning planks against the back wall of the shed.
"Yeah?" He asks.
We walk back toward the house as I question him a bit.
"How come you took those
two-by-fours off the window?" He smirks and picks up the hot glue gun off the ground.
"That Y/n is a smart one." He says. I raise an eyebrow. "She explained how if a Mort cérébrale saw the house, they would see the wood and know we were in there." I nod in agreement.
"When did she tell you that?" We re-enter the shed so he can put the glue gun away.
"She ran toward me telling me to stop." He says. "I almost hot glued her face, she scared me so much." He ends the sentence with a chuckle.

Tyler then pulls out two folding chairs and sets them up next to the table.

I take a seat next to him.

"It would be a good idea to keep her around." I sigh.
"Mark said she should at least stay with us until the morning, and she wouldn't even do that." I tell him. "Something about getting to Washington before May to get some supplies." Now it's his turn to raise an eyebrow.
"Supplies? In Washington?" He asks I'm a very suspicious tone.
"Yeah. Why?" He shakes his head.
"It just doesn't sound right." I shrug.
"Nothing sounds right
now-a-days." I say.

Our conversation ends as we see Mark helping Amy reach some acorns off a tree. She's on his back.
They both then go crashing to the ground and burst out into a fit of giggles.

"Good to know that even after everything that has happened, they still manage to love each other." Tyler says. I give an agreement hum.
"It's kind of amazing." I turn and smile at the curly haired man. We both go silent again.

Amy gets off of Mark and helps him up. He gladly takes her hand and pulls himself up, before pulling her into a kiss. My smile only grows.

"Even with death always looming over them, they haven't lost their passion for one-another." I say.
"Maybe one day you'll find your girl or guy to make you feel like them." Tyler says. I turn to him and shake my head.
"No. You're definitely going to find someone way before I do, if I even ever do." Tyler only chuckles.
