mackenzie slowly got up, tiredly rubbing her eyes. "wh-what? where?" she mumbled, looking around at the slightly familiar room.

"mack! it's time for us to leave!" she heard a voice. mackenzie blinked a few more times, until she could finally see who was talking.

"mom?" she asked, scrunching her eyebrows. her mother simply laughed. "yes mack. now come on! we have to get to the airport in an hour!"

that was when it all clicked. mackenzie was moving to toronto. her parents were alive. she had a real sister. she didn't live with anyone called the vincents. heck, she didn't know anyone called the vincent's. she didn't know johnny. her sister wasn't her dance teacher. she wasn't about to get married to him. she wasn't famous. kenzie wasn't her nickname. everything was just a dream.

mackenzie felt close to tears. it had all felt so real. at this point, all she wanted to do was curl up in bed and go back to dreaming about that. her mother mistook her tears as sadness over leaving, and smiled warmly. "don't worry, mack. we'll come back soon, i promise. you can facetime all your friends while we're there. but do come on. get ready now, sweetie."

mackenzie nodded, and her mom walked out of the room. she couldn't help feeling sadness wash over her again. she'd never been this emotionally attached to a dream before and she didn't know how to act.

she sighed, and tiredly got up. she washed her face, and got dressed, and once she was done, her father, mother, maddie and her all left for the airport.

the whole drive, all mackenzie could think of was her dream. it was already starting to fade. this was one of those common moments where she wished she could replay her dream as though it was a movie.

after the long flight, they had finally arrived in toronto. mackenzie walked out of the airport, staring blankly as she walked. during the plane ride, she'd gotten preoccupied; and although she was thankful for that, she had forgotten most of her dream.  there was no recollection of any of her songs or other memories she'd previously remembered.

but she dill remembered johnny. she still remembered the vincent's. everyone who had ever cared for her — she remembered them.

mackenzie and her family all got into the car, and drove to their new house. as big and beautiful as it was, mackenzie missed the house the vincent's had. she didn't remember it, but she knew she loved it.

for now, the only thing she was glad about was that she had a family. she knew she should be grateful for them.

"mack. come on! let me show you your room!" her mom smiled excitedly at kenzie. kenzie faked a small smile, and let her mom lead her to her room.

her jaw dropped as she saw her room. it was an exact replica of the one from her dream. she could remember it easily now. this was the room she had stayed in when she was with the vincent's.

"mom, i love it!" mackenzie gasped, smiling at her mom in delight. if this was as close as she could get to her dream, so be it.

"i'm so glad! now you can freshen up, and then come down for dinner," her mom told her. mackenzie nodded, and did as she was told.

throughout her routine, all she could think about was her dream. she knew it was unhealthy to be so stuck to a dream, but she couldn't help it. five years of her life had taken place in that one dream.

her dream created an ideal love interest for her, and now no one else would be able to match up to it. she wanted him. she wanted johnny orlando.

mackenzie was snapped out of her thoughts by maddie calling her downstairs. she made her last look presentable, and then walked downstairs.

"okay mack! so i have some good news for you! you're starting work tomorrow!" melissa told her once the family had settled down for dinner. "isn't that great? you'll be working at starbucks!" her dad added. "what? already!" mackenzie exclaimed in shock. her parents nodded in unison, smiling.

"but...what about school?" "school hasn't started here yet, and it'll be a while, so until then, you can work at starbucks," her dad explained.

"fun," mackenzie muttered, looking down. not fun at all. her parents nodded gleefully, not sending her unhappiness, and moved on to maddie to tell her about about her job at a dance club.
