"Remember that you will find your true powers from within. Never weaken yourself down for anyone. Because if it is for the people of this world, it's not worth it."

Although I was barely five back then, but I could remember everything, everthing that had happened, and the forgotten promise, because my father never came back, not even after the war ceased. Those were the last words he told me; and I didn't dare forget them, never.

We came to a village far north, in hope of restarting a new life. Still, my mother refused to tell me anything. Where my father went, why he went, where he was and why he never came back...  She always dismissed the topic when I brought it up, leaving it a mystery to me, even though I thought I was old enough. For sure, as a fifteen year old girl, I could probably draw several conclusions myself, but I refused to accept that my father is dead. Never.

Upon smelling the scent of my mother's signature cream soup and the sizzling of sausages, I went down stairs to help her prepare dinner. The stair creaked below my feet as I made my way down to the kitchen, inhaling the lovely scent of various food I would be having for dinner.

My mother was standing by the stove, flipping the sausages as she waited for the soup to simmer. She had many age lines on her pale face, but still displayed an exquisite beauty that no other woman could outshine, her hazel eyes were probably the prettiest for miles. I looked very mych like a clone of her, except that, instead of her curly, ginger locks, I had straight, jet-black hair. Like my father's.

"You're down, Celesta," my mother greeted, giving me a warm smile, brushing ashes off her ragged apron. I grunted in response and went to grab the plates. Have I told you yet that I am not that er...talkative?

I turned off the stove, seeing that the sausages were almost burnt and placed them on the plate, placing them beside the candle on the table. My mother placed the bowl of soup and garlic bread beside it.

"When will you tell me about Dad?" I asked her. She didn't answer, instead, placed another sausage on my plate.

"You cannot know yet, Celesta, darling." She said when I continued staring at her.

"I am old enough, Mom," I protested and my sausage jumped from my plate to the floor. She went under the table and took the sausage up, still avoiding my gaze.

"So, what did the baker tell you yesterday?" She asked me with a lopsided smile.

"Stop changing the subject, Mom!" I growled at her and jabbed my fork down at another sausage, again, jumping off my plate.

She heaved a long sigh, and although relunctantly, walked towards the cabinet and her head disappeared in there for awhile. She moved a couple boxes, bottles and cook books, she picked out a red rectangular box, engraved with little stones colored like ruby, it was hard to identify if it was fake or real since I had never seen a ruby before, the only type of gem I had seen often was Opal, since it was on my mother's wedding ring. She picked out a golden key from the necklace she wore an unlocked the box.

Inside was an assortment of many things, little watches, keys, locks and her wedding ring. She picked up a wrapped package and threw the paper wrapping it away. She handed me a delicate looking gold chain, at the end was a locket with her shaking hand. I clicked a small button and the lid sprang open, revealing a picture of my father, like how I remembered him, kind brown eyes, tanned, scarred face and untidy black eyes. And at the lid was a paper, folded carefully an taped with clear tape.

"Your father left you this, he wrote you this letter, he wanted you to read it once you are old enough," my mother said quietly, her voice shaking slightly as she waited for me to tear the paper of.

I was about to pull the paper off when we heard screams from outside. From the window, we could see sea of red, orange and ashes. I secured the necklace around my neck and we hurried to the door, feeling panic surging in our blood.

"What is happening?" My mother asked a lady who was still in her night dress, running  away, her face as pale as a ghost.

"The village is under attack!!"
