Whitney Houston wanted to a re-adaption of the 1976 movie 'Sparkle' and made it specifically for Aaliyah. Aaliyah was set to star in Sparkle, and even recorded a demo of a Donny Hathaway cover 'Giving Up.' Unfortunately, she never did because of her death. When Aaliyah died, Whitney and the production team didn't want to continue the film, so they shelved it. However, in 2012, they made the film again with r&b singer Jordin Sparks.
