It was named Age Ain't Nothing But A Number, as stated by R Kelly (producer for the album and r&b singer) in an interview, 'She's running around the studio one day with her friends, talking a lot of smack saying 'Age Ain't Nothing But A Number' girl, like whatchu tryna say? I rang her 15 minutes after, saying that we should cut the track and name the record.' Her brother, Rashad and also Aaliyah has also stated that she named the album the title because she didn't want people to see her as a teenager that's in the spotlight, she wanted them to see her as Aaliyah.
