Chp 22

Cabir on the other side was talking to manik when he heard sound of car hitting with sth and then he heard manik's painful voice.......he got worried and called manik's name several times but no response from his side.........he was waiting patiently for him to say sth but the call disconnected after sometime making him more tensed.......he knew the conditions and how aman was behind him so immediately he grabbed his car keys and started his journey towards the  side which manik had mentioned during the call....i.e somewhere b/w his village and mumbai..............while manik was lying on the road lifeless near his car under the vast sky......no one was there to help him...their was havoc on the sky...birds chirping voices had tunred into some kind of loud shoutings as if they were trying to gain someone's attraction....as if they wanted to tell the world that they would loose a gem if they didn't act on time..we could see his chest rising up faintly and then falling down probably he was taking his last breaths....his last breaths away from his beloved ones....he so wished to see their faces b4 closing his eyes but it seemed that luck wasn't with him that day.....

Nandini and daadi came to lounge after eating a delicious lunch made by nandini.......nandini was waiting for manik's call impatiently as she had asked him to inform her as soon as he reach home but he hadnt called her yet which was making her worried but still she didnt show it on her face..........daadi was going to her room for taking a power nap while nandini picked up the remote and switched on the tv as she had nothing else to do........surfing the channel they both heard a voice of tv news saying POPULAR JOURNALIST MANIK MALHOTRA daadi and nandini stopped there and gave eachother a look while nandini switched back to that channel where a reporter was saying

Manik malhotra is found unconcious on xyz road.....it is informed that some unknown people has shot him daadi fell back on sofa listening to it while nandini's breath hitched in her throat as she stared at the screen blankly....the voices went in background as her mind went blank....STAY TUNED TO FIND MORE ABOUT THIS INCIDENT ...the reporter was shouting but it seemed that someone had snatched her listening ability

She came back into the real word when she heard sound of glass shattering on the floor which fell when daadi's hand hit with it when she was falling.....she looked at daadi to find her sitting on sofa with her eyes closed and her head falling on one side while she was mumbling only manik's name....nandini flustered at her condition and ran towards kitchen to grab water for her....she held her head and made her drink few sips of waer while she was adamant to not drink.....she just wanted to see manik nothing else

N: daadi plzz control urself......kuch nhi hua manik ko (patting her cheek)

Da: manikk mera bacha (few tears rolled down her cheeks as she whispered his name like a prayer)

N: bkwaas karte hai ye news channels wale....kuch nhi hua use (she shouted wiping lone tears off her face......she switched off the tv and slammed the remote hard on table)

She took daadi to her room and make her lie on bed assuring her that the news was fake...... She decided to call cabir....as soon as he picked the call nandini asked impatiently

N: cabir....manik (she said breathlessly) ye kia bol rhe han (fresh layer of tears slipped on her cheeks making it wet)

C: bhabi mein navya ko bhej rha hn aap logo ke ghar....aap bhi ready hojaye .....navya daadi ke sath reh lege aap ko hospital ana hai...manik abhi OT room mein hai (he said in calm tone while nandini's heart stopped beating the moment she heard those painful words from cabir's mouth and she closed her eyes in pain)

Cabir noticed her silence and said

C: u need to be strong nandini......daadi ko bhi aap ki zaroorat hai.....control kare sb theek hojaye ga (he tried to console her)

N: hmm (wiping tears from the back of her hand)

She went to daadi's room to check on her but found her looking at the tv blankly where the reporter was shouting informing about the accident......in one video 2 3 persons picked up the unconcoius manik who was covered in blood and placed him on stretcher.......nandini could see his hand hanging from the stretcher......daadi let out a painful sob as she saw her manik while nandini slid against the wall.......she sat on on cold floor and hugged her knees while staring at the ceiling

Ma: kuch nhi hoga Mjhe (his words ringed in her ears as she mumbled in low tone jhoot bola tha usne mjhse )

After some time navya arrived at their village house........she saw nandini and hugged her who was standing their lifeless......she didnt even care to hug her back.....navya was rubbing her back as if trying to make her cry but not a single tear fell of her eye after cabir's call and it wasnt gud........she after few minutes went to daadi whose health was getting worse as she was mumbling only manik's name even in her unconsciousness...........nandini sat in the car with heavy heart and started her journey towards the hospital.....entering thru the main door she asked the receptionist about emergency ward and started walking towards it with her heart beating so fast that it seemed that it would come out at any moment....surrounded by the guards she reached there after avoiding media and other people.....cabir saw her entering the emergeñcy ward and walked towards her.......she looked at him with questioning eyes and he quietly indicated towards the OT room whose red light was on ......she stood against the wall on front of OT room waiting for operation to end soon........rubbing her sweaty hands with eachother she was constantly looking at the red light outside the OT room without even blinking her eyes for once thinking what if the light turned off the moment she would blink her eyes.....her condition was pathetic despite her not showing it on face cabir could sense it.....cabir looked at her and then went close to her.....extending water bottle towards her he looked at her pale face........she looked at the water bottlw and then at him while saying in low tone

N: no i dont need it....ty (she faked a smile)

C: wo theek hojaye ga......he is a fighter.....(placing hand on her shoulder)

N: theek to use hona pare ga (she said plainly looking at the red bulb) he promised me.....he cant break his promise (the hollowness in her voice shook him to the core)

After half an hour which seemed like ages for nandini the red bulb turned off and it caught cabni's attention......they both ran towards OT room impatiently.....they both really needed to hear some gud news

N: doc....doc how's....(she was unable to complete her sentence)

C: (gesturing thru his eyes to nandini) how is manik

Doc: gentleman we have removed bullets from his body but still he is unconscious......the next 48 hrs r critical and if he wouldn't gain his consciousness in this time....we r sorry to inform u that  then we have to put him on life support (placing hand on cabir's shoulder) he needs ur prayers (nandini stumbled at his words and she felt dizziness..Kuch bhi nhi hoga mjhe.....tm mera intezaar karo ge naa.....mein friday night ko hi wapis ajao ga....I LUV U NANDINI his chirpy voice was ringing in her ears and with a blurry vision she recalled those words...ufff manik u have destroyed me her heart let out a painful scream......she would have fallen on floor if cabir wouldnt have held her by her arm....they made her sit on bench and doctor started examining her......

Doc: she is taking too much stress........

C: yeah she is numb.....she didnt even cry for once (he said worriedly...first manik's condition.....then navya told him about daadi's health and now nandini.....it was too much for him to handle)

Doc: make her cry......she needs to share her pain with someone otherwise its not gud

he left from there after giving lot of advices to cabir and then he ordered a staff member to get some food for nandini...while cabir stood there rubbing his firehead in tension
