The mermaid swam,

Her tears unnoticeable in this world of water.

The mermaid swam,

Allowing the current to carry her farther and farther.

The mermaid swam until she lost all feeling,

From the top of her head to the tip of her tail.

The mermaid's vision blurred, she became to dizzy,

And she let out a horrifying wail.

No one would hear the mermaid's cry

from under the waters depths.

No one to understand her story

of how so much pain came from such bliss.

With sudden courage,

and a longing to speak from her heart,

the mermaid gathered her strength

and gave a strong, sudden start.

She swam hurriedly toward the surface,

and began to see the glow of the sun.

She needed to somehow speak these words,

She needed her song to be sung.

Her head broke through the surface,

The sun beamed down on her,

Her tears joined with the water,

as she neared the sandy shore.

Upon a rock the mermaid sat,

The sun reflecting off the water on her skin.

She closed her eyes and opened her mouth

and a beautiful song she began to sing.

Her voice rang out in a magical tone,

A moving melody,

A song of love and loss and pain

and all the mermaid had to see.

One last note, One last tear,

before she dove to the sea again.

Her song to never be heard, and as for the mermaid

Gone- as if she had never been.
