How did it end up like this

How it all started

"Give me your gun and badge Jax."
I placed my gum and badge on his desk and walked out, not listening to his attempts to tell me I could still be on desk duty, I won't hear it. It is only a matter of time before Ellis is dumped and this guy moves onto a new target. I get into my car and drive to the location listed on his last letter. His name Jason, but that doesn't live up to the sick things this man has been doing. He kidnaps young girls and disposes of them around a week later, meaning there's only a few days left for us to save this girl.
My phone rings in the passenger seat and I look over and see that it is my partner, Jess. She works as a forensic anthropologist, but could definitely pass as an agent if she needed to. Her lab works with the fbi to solve murders, and she is the best. Not that I'd ever let her hear me say that, but she knows it. I let it go to voicemail, my guess is she already knows that I've been suspended and Is going to lecture me about how I shouldn't have gone off like I did. She keeps calling but I let the rain drown out the ringing and go back to trying to figure out the letters that Jason sent. He could have just sent them to the fbi but he leaves them where i will find them. He has done this for the previous few victims, always leaving a trail to his dump sights or important places. The only person who knows about the letter I received today was Jess, and I was able to copy it before I was suspended, unless they go through my desk they probably won't find the original. Once I reach the location in the letter i check my phone. Not only missed calls from her but from Alex, Sage, Atlas, and Jasper. She probably has them call me to see if I'd answer. Before I could put it back in my pocket Jess's name pops up showing she was calling again.
" Hey Jess."
"Jax what the fuck, I was worried sick. Where are you?"
" Sorry, I didn't want you to worry, I just didn't want you to follow me out here and get hurt-"
She cut me off " First off, you don't get to do that, I'm your partner, I'm going to worry, second off , we are already on our way. You know I would be otherwise you wouldn't have shown me the letter."
Fuck I forgot about that photographic memory of hers, i don't know how since it's helped us with pretty much every case.
"Wait who is we?" I asked, now worried she pulled my boss into this.
"Alex, Sage and I, don't worry Atlas and jasper are working with the others to process the evidence so we don't bring up any reason for your boss to be suspicious and get there before we do."
"I'd rather not have you so here, you so don't need to get wrapped up in this mess"
"nope don't even try that shit dude-" I hear in the background, that was Alex. I hung up before I heard the rest of what he was saying. I got out of the car and walked towards the trail. I followed it into the woods with my flashlight in hand. This is something that I used to find peaceful, being in the woods when it's raining, hearing the raindrops hit the leaves but the cover of the trees keeps you semi dry.
'This is such a quiet spot, almost too quiet and peaceful for him to have brought her here.. and it looks familiar but I'm almost positive I've never been here. '
My thoughts were cut short by a scream in the distance. I instinctively reached for my gun holster, but nothing was there.
'No shit dumbass, they took that gun. Check the left pocket of your jacket' I could hear jess say in my head. I checked that pocket and to my surprise there was a gun, how she knew that I won't try to figure out right now. I started running towards the screams. It sounded like Ellis but I couldn't be sure, the thoughts spiraled out of control as to what could be happening to her. We never found any of his victims before they were displayed in horrific scenes. As I got closer to the sounds, a cabin came into view. There was a very small amount of light coming the boarded up windows, the blood curdling screams coming from inside, which now I can tell aren't just screams.
"HELP ME UNCLE JAX!" I hear in what I could only imagine was between sobs. This fucker will not be getting away with this.
