I ruffled my papers in my hand, looking for a good article. None popped out from the papers. I sighed and let the papers fall back onto the table. The morning sun was out in full heat. Though the sun was big, the morning itself was quiet.
Bored of the papers and quiet, I jumped up. I checked my refrigerator and it supplies. Barely anything. Just some eggs and milk. I would have to restock sometime when I had the money, but for now, I grabbed two eggs and the milk. I poured me a glass then lit the stove alive. The eggs sizzled incoherently and I poured a glass of milk.
After a few minutes, the eggs were done. I plopped them onto a plate and sat in front of them. I grabbed the papers again, looking for a maybe hidden gem. I ate while scanning the papers. Still there was nothing new. I finished my eggs and chugged my milk down. I put the plate in the sink and headed out the door. I'll clean them later.
I headed out the door and to my office job. I walked there considering I was only a few blocks away. I weaved my way through the crowds of people, over streets and sewer drains, then into the from doors of the office.
I headed to the front desk and greeted Sherry.
"How's work?" I asked, trying to make conversation with my employees.
"It's fine and easy, Mr. Derant," she replied. I sighed.
"Good. Good," I said. I left down the hall towards the elevators. I got my usual good morning boss and headed to my office. Why can't they treat me like the do other employees? I would like to be spoken as a person not a boss.
I used to treat them like that but I got old. I got tired of the same thing. I want to change it but no one listens. I sighed. Someday we will be able to talk with ease to one another. For now, I know it won't happened and I have work to do.
I sat myself and my suitcase at my desk. I put my four digit code in, flipped the locks, and grabbed the papers hidden. I looked through them again as I did this morning. Still nothing. Trying to find loopholes in contracts are harder than they look.
As I laid my papers down, Sherry beeped me on my business phone.
"Yes?" I asked.
"Sir, there are two men here to see you," She explained. I sighed. They were probably wanting a business partner for their own small business.
"Send them in," I commanded.
"Yes, sir," Sherry answered. A few minutes later, a knock sounded on my door.
"Come in," I commanded. Slowly, the two men emerged into my office. I smiled and tried to seem friendly about their meeting. Newbies in business I thought.
"Welcome. What can I do for you two?" I politely asked, trying to stay smiling.
"We were looking for a partnership with your corporation. We could help you as you could us," one of the men explained. I put my hand on my chin.
"May I ask, what are your names?" I questioned, wishing they made their introductions first.
"My name is Nigel Westover. My friend here is Rocco Dethworth," Nigel answered.
"Pleasure to meet you, Nigel. The name is Derek Derant of Derant Corporation," I greeted.
"It is nice to meet you Mr. Derant," Nigel greeted back. I could sense his uneasiness.
"So, what brings you in today?" I questioned.
"We are a small company that is in need of money to fund our project," Nigel answered vaguely.
"What kind of business do you and Rocco do?" I demanded, getting irritated that they were being vague about their business. If they are criminals, I will find out one way or another, and deny them.
