yeseul walked into the store and saw chan sitting by himself behind the counter.

"hi chan," she greeted, walking into the staff room and leaving her bag there before grabbing a vest and walking to the counter.

"hello," he replied quietly, focused on his phone.

the girl hesitated before saying, "hey, can i ask you something?"

he looked up at her. "okay."

she dragged a stool next to him and sat down. "uh, how come you've worked so many jobs?"

he paused. "my mum's been sick for a while. she's bedridden, so i have to earn money for the both of us."

"oh," yeseul frowned, feeling her chest tighten. "i'm sorry... i hope she gets better soon."

he nodded. "me too."

yeseul figured chan had no siblings, and his father clearly wasn't around to support his family. she bit her lip.

"well... i ran away from home few years ago. i live with my younger sister in a slum," yeseul muttered, immediately feeling stupid for sharing her life story with her colleague.

however, chan perked his head up in interest. "really?"

she nodded slowly. "yeah, i... yeah."

chan looked at the unusually quiet girl, tilting his head slightly.

maybe he finally found someone to talk to.
