Once I saw a golden key,
Above my head and within my reach.
I let it go and it flew away,
Now I sit in growing melancholy
Again, I see the golden key,
Above my head and out of my reach.
I jump up high and fall with a sigh,
Now I sit in growing melancholy.
I look around, oh my grieving soul.
How I wish I had tried.
Now I see the golden key,
Soaring high in its splendid glory.
Oh! I wish, I wish I had tried,
But now I sit in complete melancholy.
