Around the neighbourhood
Birds perched up on the trees
Silent, still they stood
It caused me some unease

"Why do you not sing?"
I asked one in colour green
"It's the early morning,
I brought you your favourite bean."

Though he was suspicious,
The bird could not resist
He perched himself on my hand,
Delivered me the gist

"Why do we have a voice
When none can say a word
Without the fear of wrong
Or being overheard?

"Make-believe or truth,
A falsehood or a lie,
Offend the silence in the wind,
and we might never fly."

Before he could have finished,
A dreadful sight deterred,
Falling from the tree above
Was a wingless bird
