Connor's P.O.V.
" Ughhh." Hank groans before placing his head face down on his desk.
Lieutenant Anderson was known for his drinking addiction. He would drink far too much until he either threw up or passed out. I knew the definition of addiction but not the feeling. I was kind of glad for that.
" Connor, I'm dying." Hank complains, turning his head to face me.
" You're not dying Lieutenant. You're just nauseous from the large amount of alcohol you consumed last night. I told you to stop after your fourth drink but you insisted you were fine." I said, fixing my tie.
Hank sighed heavily and rolled his head back over to face the desk. This was nothing new for the lieutenant. I was quite used to waiting an hour or two for him to feel better before he was ready to work. That just gave me time to look over case files and familiarize myself with each individual case.
A loud ring started to sound from Hank's pocket, irritating him further.
" Ugh, what now." He all but cried. " What?!" He snapped answering his cellphone. " Yeah this is him, what do you.."
I saw the lieutenant's face drop. He was lost for words, I've never seen him like this. He got up and left the room, I could see him outside the glass walls pacing back and forth. I was unsure of what he was saying but I could tell from his body language he was upset. A few minutes into the call, he finally hung up and came back into the office. He sat at his desk and placed his head into his hands.
" Lieutenant? Is everything alright?"
He got up without a word and headed for Captain Fowler's office. I saw him begin to speak and Captain Fowler's eyes went wide. He walked over to Hank and placed his hand on his shoulder.
What is going on?
Hank pointed to me from the Captain's office. He nodded his head and patted Hank on the back before he left. The lieutenant walked towards me and handed me his car keys.
" Come on Connor, you're driving." He said heading for the door. He sounded, broken.
I followed him to the car without a word.
*~*
We've been driving for a while now. I still wasn't sure where we were going. Hank would just tell me which street to turn onto.
" Lieutenant?" I said as calmy as I could. He looked over at me, showing I had his attention. " Is everything okay?"
" No, no it's not." Hank coughed, clearing his throat. I could hear the pain in his voice. " My brother David was in a really bad car accident. One of the automated buses ran a red light and T-Boned his car. His wife and daughter was in the car with him."
I didn't know what to say. I can't even begin to understand how Hank must feel.
" Is he.. okay?"
I saw Hank wipe at his eyes, before he shook his head. " He died before the ambulance got there. His wife died on impact."
" What about the daughter? Your niece?" I asked quicker then I should have.
Hank let out a small laugh, " Funny thing about that. Their android was in the back seat with her, it shielded her from the blow of the crash. She got out with a concussion and a cut on her head."
