You know the best thing about dark is that you don't need to pretend in it.

Emilia's pov

I was lying on the soft green grass watching the stars. It was dark out here being midnight but to top it off the street lights were not working which left me in pure darkness but I wasn't scared of it. It was something I have become used to.

I can even say I have become fond of it. It fascinates me in some strange but unique way. Normal people can't understand how beautiful the dark is but I do. Yes, I am not normal. That's why I am aware of the perks of being in the dark. It doesn't ask me to smile, laugh, cry or show any other emotions just to prove I am okay! I can be just me and ignore all the fakeness I carry in the light.
So I come out here every night and enjoy this peace and quiet in the dark.

Well this peace didn't last long as my mom saw me here alone.

"Emilia Clark! Get inside right now or I promise to make sure you are never going out at night again." Yelled my mom from her window.

"Coming mom" I replied. I reached my room and land on the bed with a thud. Sleep over took me in minutes.

Next morning came soon. I didn't wanted to go to school but my mom forced me out of the bed so I had to.

I took a quick shower covered myself with a towel and stood in front of my closet. It took me minutes to grab my favorite red knee length skirt and white tee tucked inside. I braided my hair and yes I was done. I never liked  makeup it suffocated me. I felt like I was coated with a layer of thick paint.

I went downstairs and found my mom making pancakes in the kitchen. "Hey mom, bye mom!" I said while taking two pancakes with me. "Emy sit down and have your breakfast properly" she yelled.

But I was out before her completing the daily dosage of her scolding. I walked to the school which was 5 blocks away daily. I could take the bus but I preferred walking for two reasons; 1st it saved me a lot of money and 2nd well I get to loose some carbs daily.

My mom thought I didn't needed to loose weight but I always had these insecurities about it. I was never comfortable wearing clothes which showed a lot of skin.

Finally I reached school ; the place I hated so much. My hands went cold and my heart started beating ten thousand times faster. It always happened when I was surrounded with people. I tilted my head towards the ground and started walking as fast as I could so that I could avoid the stares I knew I was getting.

This was something I became used to. Everyone in school found out ways to criticize people who were not popular. Popularity came to only those who had looks, confidence and a way to make others look inferior.

"Emy, Hi girly..come here I saved you a seat." said my best friend Brooke. Brooke is my only friend in the whole school and unlike me, she was popular for two reasons : her never fading beauty and everlasting confidence. She was the perfect example of Girl next door that every boy craved to have beside them. And unlike others she was not someone who believed in bullying which made people criticize her as well . When I first came in this school many girls tried to worn me  about her being a bitch but I never saw that side of her. With time I found out that she was the most caring and fun person to be around. We became best friends and since then we are inseparable.

" Hey Brooke" I sat beside her. "I found out something today" she sounded excited. "What is it?" I asked.

"There's gonna be a writing competition soon" she said. Brooke and I both have always been obsessed with reading and writing which was one of the reasons we bonded so well.

"Really? WOW! That's great. When is it?" I was eager to know. "Well Mr. Dawson said the dates are yet to be discussed but he wanted to let us know about it knowing our love towards writing" she said happily.

" That's awesome I have so many ideas waiting in my mind  to burst out. I'll help you with everything I can do." I replied.

"Wait so you wont participate again? That's so wrong . You are the most amazing writer in this school you shouldn't be trying to get out of it. She was irritated I knew.

"Brooke not again please. You know I can't handle crowds. Besides you are the perfect candidate for this. Please don't force me" I said calmly.

Before she could continue Miss Robinson decided to show up. THANK GOD I didn't have the courage to fight Brooke. She is quite persistent in not giving up easily.

After class was over Brooke had some important documents to submit in the administration department so she went out. I was packing my bag for the next class when someone took it from me. I found out it was none other then Aiden Black: The most popular boy in school.

"Uhmm..Is there a problem?" I asked hesitantly.
