The rest of the week was a breeze. I went to Cam's a lot so I wouldn't clash with my mom. He was behaving well, treating me well, and he seemed happy. We didn't argue at all. Everything was awesome.
It was Saturday night. I was at Taylor's house. We were having a girls' night, watching classic chick-flicks like The Notebook and Mean Girls.
At the moment, we had Mean Girls playing in the DVD player. It was at my favorite part — when Regina stuck up for Gretchen after Jason had ditched Gretchen for another girl after they had a special night. Now, Jason was at the mall with this girl, so Regina used Gretchen's phone to call the girl's mother, pretending to be someone from Planned Parenthood. I laughed with Taylor and threw a piece of buttered popcorn into my mouth.
Taylor's phone beeped. She picked it up and unlocked it.
"Who texted you?" I asked.
"Jason," she answered, her cheeks turning red.
"Ooooooh, get it bitch!" I teased.
She playfully hit me. "Shut up!" she laughed. Taylor looked at her phone, reading the text. Suddenly, she was laughing so hard, she almost fell off the couch.
"What? What did he say?" I asked, picking up her phone and reading it. "'I'm in your backyard,'" I read. "What?" I laughed.
"I know, right? How stupid does he think we are?"
We heard a sound from upstairs, causing both of us to squeal.
"Shit," Taylor muttered quietly. We walked up the stairs, exiting the basement so we could find the source of the noise.
"Maybe Jason wasn't kidding," I suggested.
She snickered. "Yeah, right. It was probably just the storm."
We looked outside the back door, then the front door.
"I don't see anyone!" I called from her kitchen.
"Me neither!" she called back from the hallway. "I guess we were just—" she didn't finish her sentence. She screamed, and her hands soon slapped over her mouth.
"What?" I screeched. I looked in her direction, noticing there was a man outside the fogged-up glass door that led to her back porch. It was raining, and I didn't recognize the person standing outside. I screamed.
The man knocked on the door. "Aye, Taylor, let me in!" he yelled.
Jason.
Both Taylor's and my chest dropped down, and we sighed in relief. Taylor ran to the door and opened it for him. "You scared the shit out of us!" she told him, swatting his arm as he walked inside."
"I told you I was in your backyard," he laughed.
"Yeah, but I didn't think you were serious." She walked away from him, but he crept up behind her and slapped her ass. "Hey!" she yelled. He just laughed.
I stood there awkwardly as Jason chased her around her kitchen. I sighed, taking out my iPhone. My lock screen photo was of Cam and me. I was laughing. He had his arms wrapped around my hips and was kissing my cheek. We were so happy.
I missed him so much in that moment.
"I don't wanna be a third wheel, so I'll just go see what Cam's up to," I told Taylor, grabbing my things.
She stopped running and looked at me with a sad face. Jason came up behind her and wrapped his arms around her waist. "No, stay," Taylor said.
"No, you and Jason have fun," I insisted. "I'll just go hang with Cam, okay?"
