-| Chapter Two |-

Start from the beginning

Mrs. Palomino wasn't buying it. She walks over to Tom and asks, "Tom, tell me the truth. Are you two bullying Deana."

"Yeah..." Tom states looking up. "I didn't want to but Jimmy made me."

Mrs. Palomino walks over to the door and says with an apologetic tone, "I'm so sorry they've been bullying your sister. I don't tolerate bullying at all, I'll have this taken care of. Thank you for telling me."

"You're welcome." I say to her, my eyes flicker to clock on the wall. "Well, I better be getting home. Goodnight, Mrs. Palomino."

"Goodnight, Winter." She replies shutting the door.

I turn around start to head home. It was only a little after 7:20 and my curfew isn't until 10:30 so I figured why not go to my favorite spot and look at the stars. I remember we use to go there a lot when I was younger before we had Deana. I should probably be using my time wisely, I've got school tomorrow and some homework assignments that need to be done. Like chemistry.

Upon getting there I lay down and look up into the night sky, stars twinkling above me. I never understood why I liked looking at the stars so much. Maybe it was the curiosity and wonder I would feel by looking at them or maybe it made feel like my mom was still here.

A loud bang had brought me out of my thoughts. My body jolted forward and my eyes scanned the area for the cause of the alarming noise. Once I find the source, a giant blazing fire, I run over to it; don't get me wrong I was always told to run away from danger but something told me that I should go and help. I've always helped people and I knew one day it would come back to bite me. I just hope tonight isn't that night.

After the fire dies down some I see a lone person laying there. I'm assuming that they're injured because of the way they are just laying there, motionless on the ground. I quickly run over to the person and as I get closer I notice they're wearing what looks like armor. It reminded me of the superhero blue beetle, but this armor was different. The color is silver and the fact that the wearer is a woman.

So many questions were running through my head. Like why is she here? Is she a superhero like the blue beetle? What was she fighting? Is it whatever she was fighting still around? My head started to pound as the questions screamed in my head.

Kneeling down beside the woman I start to question whether or not I should shake this person, or maybe it wasn't even a person. Hell, this thing under the armor could be alien, one that would want to suck my brains out or something. I reach out my hands and slowly extend them, scared to wake the thing in front of me. I don't know what happened next but the thing in front of me start to cough and once it's coughing fit is done it lets out a shaky breath.

The armor around sits face retracts and I see a woman who seems to be a little older than me. I was completely shocked at what was going on in front of me. WHAT was even going on in front of me? The woman turns her head and when she sees me she says, "Khaji, scan for him."

I could barely make out what she said. The next thing she said had me even more confused as to what was going on. "I don't care, I know I'm dying. Do it, now!"

The girl then smiles and lets out a sigh of relief. She says to me reaching for her back, trying to grab something, "You take my scarab. Become the next Silver Beetle, become the hero I should have."

She rests her head back on the grass. I can't even speak right now. There's a person dying right in front of me and I have no idea what to do. The woman gives me one last smile before her breath hitches and she ceases to breathe anymore. I..I don't think I'm ever going to get that sound out of my head...

Her armor powers down and this silver beetle type thing burns a hole through her shirt and falls to the ground. Curiosity gets the best of me and I pick up the silver beetle. Right in contact with my skin, the dormant beetle springs to life and crawls up my arm, then down my back and attaches itself to my spine. A giant scream escapes my lips as the beetle pinchers and legs attach themselves to my body.

Everything around me starts to go hazy and the fire swirls. My head became light and nothing seemed to be right. The pain soon subsided and I still had no idea what was going on. My knees caved and my body came crashing to the ground. The world soon turned black and dark, but sirens wailed in the distance, Hope was screaming as the deafening sounds came closer and
closer
and
closer.

Till everything faded away.
