As Ellie walked into the room, she wasn't prepared for what would happen next. Her dad was lying on the floor so still, he could almost have been a rug. She screamed, ran towards him, and fell to her knees. The man lying in front of her was obviously her dad, His black hair was matted, and strands were out of place. His mouth was slightly open with dried blood splatters on his cheeks. His hazel brown eyes were open wide with fear and pain. His shirt had ripped in multiple places and had blood splatters all over it that were spreading slowly. His arms were left in an unnatural position and his leg and chest had bullet holes in them.
Ellie closed her eyes in pain and waited, praying that it wasn't true. When they opened again, they were filled with tears, threatening to fall down her slightly blushed cheeks. When her eyes could hold no more, the tears streamed down, dripping off her jawline and falling onto his shirt.
Aeden skidded to a halt by the door. "Ellie You should have- Oh, I'm sorry I truly am." As Ellie went to stand up to go to him, her dad's hand moved and grabbed hers. "They don't know about you, you need to leave." He paused at spoke directly to Aeden, "Take her away, have her surname changed, come here." Aeden crouched down and listened whispering he dad spoke to him "Take her... New family... Krenoy... Loyal... Trust Me." Was all Ellie could make out, didn't make much sense to her the only thing she understood was Krenoy. Aeden got up and moved away, got his phone out and called an ambulance. Ellie realised something, it would take the ambulance about 10 minutes to get here. Too long and she knew it.
"10 minutes was a pretty fast death" was the main comment at the funeral. Ellie was soon sick of it. 10 minutes is long when she is sitting beside her dad, holding him and telling him it's going to be alright. Watching the clock knowing they are going to be too late. Cradling his head in her lap, stroking his hair. waiting. Listening, for the sirens. His Cheeks lose their colour, he tells her he's fine and that he knows he will make it through. She tells him the ambulance is coming and for him to hold in there. When she looks at him and he is now crying in pain, still claiming it doesn't hurt but she knows it does. The weight of his head in her lap intensifies and she knows he is slipping away. when his head goes limp and he no longer replies, she knows he's gone and he can't come back. Now she hears the sirens but it's too late, 10 minutes is a long time.
Aeden taps her shoulders and she's back at the funeral. She smiles slightly, and he points to the back of the church. There Brad stands, his skin glowing and his clothes hang loosely. She walks over and there he is just standing there. He had changed so much, and the change was basically the opposite of how he used to be. He embraced her warmly and explained how happy he was that she was moving into his house and asking why she had to change her name. Ellie was confused, moving? Changing her name? when was Aeden gonna tell her this. "excuse me for a second."
She walked slowly over to Aeden, "When were you gonna tell me?" he turned around and smiled, "I thought it would be a delightful surprise. You will live with me for another month, and then you are moving there" shaking her head she glares at him, "I'm being hunted, and you expect me to go move in with a friend? If I'm found, they will all be killed like my dad!" Aeden smiles and claims that it won't happen as she is totally protected and has had her identity changed. "I refuse to move in with them. I'm not putting them in danger." Aeden sighs and walks her out the church "you don't have a say in this, it's already been decided. If necessary, we will train you to protect yourself and you can learn your powers."
Ellie gave up and walked home, or to Aeden's home as that was where she was living at the time.
