"I'll be fine Kate. Just go and do your job," he told her as she nodded her head. "I'll be gone two hours tops," she told him as she stood beside him, crouching down beside him as she rested her hand on Arthur's leg. "I'll be back soon alright. Glen is going to stay with you, that okay?" she asked him as Arthur rested his hand on top of his mums. "I'll be fine mummy," he told his mum softly as she gave him a small smile.
"Of course you will." she smiled with a proud tone. "I love you," she whispered, kissing his head as Glen smiled at the two of them. "Go, the sooner you leave, the sooner you'll be back," Glen told her with a small reassuring smile. "Alright," she muttered with a deep sigh as he watched her take the car keys and phone from the counter top, before rushing out of the door.

Half an hour later they were both sitting in front of the TV, Arthur cuddled up to him. "How long have you know my mummy?" Arthur asked him, looking up at Glen. "Five years," Glen told him with honesty as he tilted his head to the side.
"You were friends?" Arthur wondered and he could hear the curiosity in his voice. Something he'd heard plenty of times in his mother's voice.
"I think she likes you, she smiles more when you are here," Arthur told him in a childlike innocence. Cutting Glen off from answering his previous question and he couldn't help but smile, he was so much like his mum.
"Does she have many friends like me?" Glen wondered, wanting to know if she'd had someone else in her life at some point. If there had been any other potential dads to his son. He couldn't help but feel a bit jealous and he didn't even know if there had been other man.
"Like uncle Will and uncle Harry?" Arthur wondered, tilting his head to the side in a questioning manner. Glen shook his head from side to side. "Just friends?" he elaborated, not sure if he was going to get any answers from Arthur. "Like me?" he added, running his hand over Arthur's head.
"No, Simon comes over sometimes from Belgium along with Mia. But mummy doesn't have a lot of friends like you." Arthur noted with a shrug of his shoulders, turning his attention back to the TV.
"Do you have a daddy?" Arthur asked him after a few minutes of silence. To say that he was thrown in front of the lion's den so to speak. "Of course," Glen replied not sure where he was headed with his line of questioning.
"Oh," Arthur muttered, dropping his head to his chest as he saw the deflation in his entire posture. Picking him up and settling him across his lap, he tilted his head up by placing a finger under his chin and studying his son once more. He still couldn't stop himself from doing that. He simply couldn't believe that on his lap was a child that he'd made with the woman he was convinced was the one for him.
"Why do you ask?" Glen asked Arthur, his head tilted to the side, looking into his son's eyes. He felt him wanting to drop his chin again, but Glen wouldn't let him though. He could see his lip beginning to tremble and it was as if a knife was being twisted in his chest. He wanted to say: 'I'm your daddy. you have a daddy.' But he couldn't break the trust Kate was putting in him. She'd kick him out of the door sooner than he'd been allowed in. They were slow on the mend, he didn't want to ruin it.
"What has your mummy told you?" Glen asked him, resting his hand on his back. "She says that I have a daddy but he had to go away but he loved me no matter where he was," Arthur told him with a sad smile on his face as his head dropped to his chest again.
"But why did he go away? Why didn't he stay with me and be my daddy?" Arthur asked as Glen watched his son tearing up, laying his head on his chest. "Why did he leave when he loved me and mummy?" Arthur asked him as a tear rolled down his cheek.
"He can't have loved me and mummy a lot if he went away." Arthur cried as tears freely fell down his cheeks. "I know mummy cries sometimes about it," Arthur told him as he wiped his tears away.
Glen could only listen and the guilt in his chest growing as he watched his son crying. To know that Kate had cried. That he'd been missed so much. "I don't he's very nice my dad. He never came to see me," he told him as Arthur rubbed his eyes and Glen could feel the tears building in his eyes. "I'm sure he's close by." was the only thing he could say as he felt the lump in his throat. His son already had a dislike towards him cause he hadn't been there. He wanted nothing more than to go and find George and do some more damage.
He could have been a part of his son's life. He wouldn't have to rebuild the trust between himself and Kate. He wouldn't have needed to rebuild the relationship between him and his son
He shouldn't have to start from scratch with both his son and Kate.
His son wouldn't have grown up thinking his dad never wanted him in the first place. Nothing could be further from the truth, he'd have loved to hold his son when he was a baby. To hold him, comfort him, teach him. He'd missed all of it. As he held him in his arms he couldn't help but feel a sense of belonging and love for his son. Arthur may not be aware of it just yet, but he was something that he and Kate had made during their most intimate moment. Out of love for each other, he was convinced that Kate had loved him by the time they had slept together. He knew he'd loved her with all his heart by then and he still did in so many ways.
Even more so now than before, their romance had been a whirlwind. Everything had gone so fast between both of them. It didn't seem it was going to slow down anytime soon. They were right smack in the middle of another whirlwind of emotions and healing.
He loved her more because she'd given him a son. Looking down at Arthur he noticed his breathing evened out, his eyes closed. His little fist balled up in his shirt, holding onto him. His hand running up and down his back, he rested his head on top of Arthur's. "I love you my dear little one," Glen said in a vulnerable tone, closing his eyes as the sadness at having missed so much.
"I would have been here had I know little one, I would never have left you and your mum," he whispered, kissing the top of his head, before resting his cheek back on his head.
