After a while, Vincent drew away, smiling gently. "It's a pleasure to see you again, Mistyheart."

"Surprise." Mistyheart could hear Goldenblaze's smug mew somewhere in the distance. It seemed like he was speaking from the other side of the lake, because all Mistyheart wanted to focus on was Vincent, and the fact that he was alive. I have to tell Palestar! The thought rushed through her head, before she realised in horror her mother didn't even know that Vincent and Snowy had escaped after being captured by twolegs when they were apprentices. Oh StarClan, please forgive me for never telling her!

"Vincent, you must be pretty tough to have escaped those rogues so easily!" Lizardclaw mewed admiringly. "How in the name of StarClan did you manage it?"

Vincent was still smiling, though his voice had suddenly become very quiet. "I stayed behind because they knew more about Reed. The moment I mentioned her, they were all too ready to tell me... what a total foxheart she is. How she treated them, how she tried to take over. If you thought that Blue and Watcher were evil, well, no, Reed's so much worse."

Lizardclaw narrowed his eyes. "But it seemed like every time her name was mentioned, your ears would prick, like you were madly in love with her or something. Don't tell me I'm wrong."

Vincent sighed. "I still do love her. She's beautiful. But she walks with the Dark Forest now. She wanted to train me there, but I will never be evil like she is, and I will never let myself be dark. Never. I had to leave her."

Goldenblaze gave a nod. "Yes... Vincent made the completely right decision. He chose to be loyal to StarClan, and to be loyal to all of the living cats, too."

Gorsepelt muttered something in Goldenblaze's ear, but he drew away, growling something angrily in response and moving away from her, shuffling over to sit next to Minnowpelt instead. Ashfire looked sympathetic, padding over to the brown warrior instead.

"So, I wanted to talk to well... the Clan cats. I hope it doesn't seem too rude, but Scarlet, Vincent, could we leave for a moment or two?" Goldenblaze asked.

"It's fine." Vincent answered in an instant.

Scarlet looked disappointed, and mewed, "Are we keeping secrets here? Not from me!" Her eyes sparkled playfully, but Mistyheart wondered whether the rogue she cat felt upset that she was being left out.

"There's something I need to say as well. We'll be back, just give us some time." Hollyberry told the two rogues, and Scarlet sighed. "Well, I am offended! But we'll wait."

Hollyberry and Goldenblaze led the rest of the cats out of the garden and back into ShadowClan territory. Mistyheart's ears pricked anxiously. What if a patrol found them out here? It was common knowledge that several cats from different Clans were meeting here, and that was being accepted only because the medicine cats of the Clans were encouraging it. What would a patrol think if the cats were found meeting outside the garden?

"I would like to speak first-" Goldenblaze meowed, but Hollyberry cut him off. "I would like to speak first. It's important. It's about the prophecy."

Gorsepelt narrowed her eyes. "Goldenblaze has really important news, and you don't even know what it is."

Hollyberry glared at her for a few moments, and Mistyheart placed a paw on her friend's shoulder, trying to get him to calm down. "The quicker I tell you this, the quicker we'll find out what Goldenblaze has to say, too."

Goldenblaze and Gorsepelt both looked angry, but remained silent. Hollyberry continued to speak. "I had another dream from StarClan. They told me that Vincent was alive, which was proven to be true, so, well, this is something else they said, and it's really important."
