~Chapter 1: Just Like Old Times~

I began to feel a sharp pain in the back of my head, rubbing the area I flinched as I touched the knot that's forming. Slowly everything became a blur and my attention span shorten as I began to forget tonight's events. As the music from the party played, my headache throb in rhythm with the beat. Almost collapsing to the floor, a familiar face caught and assisted me. As I began to black out a wave of forgotten emotions came to me. I wasn't sure how long I was out for but when I woke up, I was lying on a couch in someone's living room. Fear struck me when I heard noise coming from behind me. Rolling off the couch, I grabbed the pillow that was supporting my head and attempted to walk. As I walked towards the direction of the noise a figure walked in front of me.

"Alexis, I'm glad you're feeling better, but you don't need to be moving with that bruise on your head."

"Devin? What are you doing here? I thought you were back home."

"Well, I finally got enough money to move here and requested a job transfer." My head began to hurt more trying to accept the fact he was in front of me. With so many thoughts racing through my head, I began to feel sharp and became lightheaded. "Alexis, you need to rest."

I backed up as he took a step towards me. "I'm fine. Where are my things? I need to call Jayne and let her know where I am."

"I already sent her a message explaining what happen."

"How do you know her number? She changed it since the last time we saw you."

"I used your phone, I'm surprised you still have the same password." I let my body fall onto the couch behind me as I tried to piece together everything that's happening. Devin and I used to date our freshmen year of university when the Spring term ended so did the relationship when he went back home to Oklahoma. We stayed friends for a while until I said some things out of anger one night. Long story short I got jealous seeing him smiling with his group of friends which was mainly girls, so I told him how he needed to prove his love to me instead of saying it and discussing a future that may or may not happen. Of course, I regretted what I said once I realized how much I hurt him. After that night we didn't talk as much and he ended up transferring to a university in his state.

Seeing him brought back a lot of emotions I tried to bury over the past two years. He sat beside me and placed a glass of water in front of me. The mood was like being trapped in a room with a stranger or you're sitting with your crush, but you don't have shit to say. I grabbed the glass off the table and began drinking the water. You would expect two years of over-thinking would help you say the right words but nope; a mute had more to say with their hands.

"I want that knot on the back of your head to go down before you go back to sleep. Are you okay with watching a movie?"

"Sure." He turned on his tv and pulled up his Netflix account. He asked me if there's anything I wanted to watch multiple and each time I responded with 'I don't know' or 'It doesn't matter'; after a while, he decided on a movie called The Train to Busan. It was the first movie we watched together but back then I got scared easily so we never finished. It wasn't long before we lost track of time.

When the movie ended it was close to one in the morning, he gave me a towel, washcloth, a t-shirt and shorts then guided me to the bathroom. Once I was out he took me to his bedroom. Before he left he grabbed a few things for his shower, a blanket, and pillow then wished me goodnight. My brain was wide awake so falling asleep was difficult. After tossing and turning for what felt like hours, I got out of bed to get a glass of water. Walking into the kitchen I was greed by a shirtless Devin leaning against the counter.
