Gregory Smitt looked at the diagram on his clipboard with obvious distaste. The results were impressive but it wasn't enough, and it wasn't progressing as fast as he wanted. The project had to progress to a new level once they finally broke thru their current barrier with the 'experiment'. Gregory Smitt was a stocky and slightly hunched over man. About forty years old, grayish brown fuzz of thinning hair grew at the temples and on his head.

Crooked nose, narrow seaweed green eyes, and a yellow toothed grin sneer just screamed about a cruel, heartless, and greedy character underneath.  Gregory set the clipboard on a white counter-top table, right next to high tech computers. He looked up at the two way mirror to look at his 'experiment'. His 'experiment' was a tall, black haired eighteen year old girl. She had her arms eagle spread, strapped down to small tables, her palms turned upwards.

Her legs, waist and shoulders were strapped down to a hospital bed with various wires pasted on her head and chest. She was wearing a white disposable hospital gown. Her ice blue eyes kept on jumping back and forth to each beeping and blinking machines surrounding her. Her panicked eyes and pressed lips made her look like a cornered animal. Gregory nodded to a stout man in a light blue operating suite, plastic gloves, and protective mask that covered his mouth and nose caused an unpleasant aura surround him.

The man slowly walked out the open door into the room with the girl. She glared at him, the little calmness that she had in her eyes fled, being replaced by anger and unmasked hatred.  The man ignored her death glares and picked-up a syringe full to the brim with a dark blue liquid  from a table full of various medical tools and glass beakers.  He held the syringe up to the light before walking towards the girl's right arm. He swabbed her arm with a piece of white cloth that was drenched with alcohol to disinfect her arm.

"When will you stop using me?" she asked her voice steady and confident.

The man looked at her and paused.

"Do you know why we named you Raven? No? Here in London the ravens at the London Tower are considered special. There is this legend that when they leave the Tower, England would fall. So, the people believe this silly tale, so they trim the raven's wings so that they will never leave. That will be the same with you."

Raven swallowed a lump in her throat that formed since they brought her in. The man plunged the needle into her forearm without warning. Raven didn't even blink or flinch. The man quickly emptied the contents of the needle; he pulled it out and swabbed her forearm again. He placed the syringe back on the table. Gregory smiled; he picked up a remote control, and pressed a button.

He sent a current of electricity thru the wires and thru Raven's body. Raven shut her eyes in pain, and clenched her teeth together. She curled and uncurled her fist after each wave of electricity. Her whole entire body strained against the straps holding her in place. The stout man was on a computer nearby, looking at the reading he was getting.

He looked up to Gregory and made a rising gesture, Gregory's smile widened. He increased the amount of electricity. Raven bit on her lip to prevent herself from crying out, beads of sweat forming on her forehead. She finally split it and blood started pooling in her mouth, smearing her pearly white teeth, blood slowly sliding down her chin and mouth. The stout man was finally satisfied and nodded to Gregory, who in return turned off the electric current. Raven sighed with relief, her arm relaxed against the restraining straps.

But she went completely rigged when Gregory came in. He approached her, his eyes sliding up and down her body. Raven, obviously repulsed spat a mouthful of blood at his face. Gregory was furious, he raised his hand to back hand slap her. Raven glared at him with defiance in her eyes. But Gregory thought better and stopped short. He walked up to her left leg.

"What are you doing?" Raven asked worry slipping thru.

Gregory looked up at her and grinned.

"Your excuse for not being at school."

Then he grabbed her leg and started to twist it. Raven started to see dark swirl tickling the edges of her eyes. Smitt started to smile, an then he yanked it to the right. A loud snap and crack echoed in  the lab. Raven mercifully was out cold.
