I Need You

Chapter Two

"Here we are Miss.Everdeen." Boggs says as he opens the door.

I walk through the door and see President Coin and Plutarch sitting at a long table.

"Ah Miss.Everdeen," Coin says. "I'm glad you're feeling much better! I'm sorry I didn't give you a lot of time to recover but we have a lot of work to do."

"What do you mean by work?" I ask.

"Katniss, this is the revolution and you are the mockingjay." Plutarch explains. "We need to start working on..."

"You left Peeta in the arena to die!" I scream making both of them jump.

"Katniss you are the only one who can do this." Plutarch says.

"No." I grunt. "I'm not being the mockingjay until You rescue Peeta and the other victors."

"Miss.Everdeen we have much work to do." Coin states with her arms crossed.

"Rescue the victors and I'll do whatever you want." I state before stomping out of the room.

I'm sitting in the dinning hall with Prim and two familiar faces walk up to me.

"Effie?" I say confused.

"Hello my dear girl." She smiles embracing me with a hug.

"No hello for me?" Haymitch says.

I don't say anything, I just looked at him. I'm just so angry and frustrated that he left Peeta to die after he'd promise he'd save him over me.

"Katniss, Listen." Haymitch tries to explain before I cut him off.

"You promised you'd save him over me." I grunt.

"We wanted to go back for Peeta." Haymitch says. "Finnick couldn't move and we had no one else who could've got him."

I don't say anything, I just let a few tears fall. My boy with the bread in the capitol because I had to fire that stupid arrow.

"I hate myself!" I scream as I run out of the dinning area.

"Katniss!" Effie screams.

"I got it." Haymitch says running after me.

I lay with my hands over my ears in the cellar room where I hide out in when I have a nightmare. Most of the time the guards of district 13 know where to find me and I hate it.

"Katniss?!" Haymitch yells.

I don't even respond. I know if I keep quiet he'll just leave.

"Katniss I know you hide out in here." He states. "Come out or I'll come looking."

I peek my head around the corner and Haymitch sees me. Great.

"Katniss." Haymitch says sitting down next to me. "Why would you say that about yourself?"

"It's true." I cry.

"No it's not." Haymitch states. "You're the mockingjay, you're going to lead a rebellion to stop the games."

"I can't be the mockingjay!" I yell.

"And why can't you?" Haymitch asks.

I don't say anything. I just let a single tear fall from my face.

"We'll get the boy back." Haymitch says hugging me.

I'm awaken but yet again another nightmare about the games and lost children. I look over towards my mom and Prim and see Prim looking at me.

"Can't sleep?" She asks.

I shake my head no and soon enough Prim is in my bed.

"Tell me what's going on." She whispers. "I'm good at keeping secrets, even from mom."

"If I'm the mockingjay and we win this war what will happen to Peeta." I whisper with a tear falling down my face.

"I don't think you realize how much you mean to them." She states. "If you want something just ask."

"I should wake you up more often little duck." I smile rubbing her cheek.

"Get some sleep now." She says.

I slowly open the door to Coin's office and make my way in.

"Thank you for meeting with me." I smile. "I'll be your mockingjay but I have some conditions."

Coin looks towards Plutarch and rolls her eyes.

"Peeta and the other tributes, Johanna Mason and Annie Cresta will be saved and when they are saved they will be pardoned from any crime they've committed towards the rebellion." I state.

"No." Coin states.

"It's not their fault that you left them in the capitol to die." I say.

"People in district 13 don't make request." She says. "You're excused."

"The victors will be liberated and you'll announce that to all of district 13. You will hold yourself accountable or you will find another mockingjay!" I sternly say.

"That's it, that's her, the mockingjay." Plutarch says jumping out of his seat. "Add a little smoke and gunfire's and bang there's our mockingjay."

"Okay Miss.Everdeen you have yourself a deal." Coin says shaking my hand. "If you do not for fill your actions then the bet will be off."

I nod my head yes and I couldn't stop thinking to myself about seeing Peeta again.
