Three Rules

In this world you have to follow three rules. Never leave someone behind,always take care of your loved ones,and never place the blame where it doesn't go. But what happens when you break one of these rules? If you break one then you could end up a shell of who you are. When you break a rule you lose a little of yourself. You might just even end up like Grayson Smith. He broke all them. This is his story....

I step out into the sun with the baby car seat on my arm. As I place it in the car I start to think "am I doing the right thing? Should I try and change how things really are?" But I know that there is nothing I can do. I knew the second he died from an overdose that it was over. If only I would have payed more attention to him...

I pull out of the driveway knowing that if he were here then he would slap the stupid out of me. I know that this is wrong but I can't look at it. I'm in tears when I pull into the hospital parking lot. When I step out a nurse walks past smiling. When I pull the car seat out I start to walk not paying attention. I walk into an older man who say "Sorry sonny. Have a good day."

As I step around him I think "Little does he know that this is the worst day." I walk in and set the car seat on the floor right next to the chair by the front desk. As I walk out I think of what my brother would tell me. I know he would say "I left my son to you thinking that you could handle it. Now you just a shell of who you are. What is wrong with you?" I shake the guilt out of my head as I pull the gun out of my pocket. I will see you soon brother. The last thing I hear after the bang is the fint sound of my parentless baby nephew crying.
