Lastly, we have Carmen Ripley. Her problems are much more than her boys'. Let us start with most obvious, her father. Though it's hard for Carmen, she becomes a nurse for the war all while her dad is dying of cancer. Of course when her father does pass she's told in a note. But in that same note, she is given news that begins all of her problems at once. And in the end, it's a needle that 'saves' her.
