After I had taken the quickest shower of my life I rushed to the kitchen where I smelled my mom cooking homemade waffles.
"Can't we eat when we get home?" I asked hopeful, but I already knew the answer I going to get.
"You need to eat breakfast, it's the most important meal of the day." My mom scolded me. I nodded with deep sigh, "Yes yes, I know."
I felt a hand land on my shoulder and I nearly jumped 20ft in the air, the dream still had me on edge. I heard my father chuckle behind me before he ruffled my hair, "Jumpy this morning?"
I felt my face heat up, "You startled me, of course I jumped!"
I heard a sound that sounded like kissing and I made a face at my parents, "Really? Right in front of my salad?" The sound stopped, "Mateo, you don't have a salad."
I couldn't help but laugh, but my mom thought that was disrespectful and I then had to explain to them where I got that from and I don't think I've ever wanted to die more. I then got in trouble for listening to gay porn, but I mean, it's not like I can watch it so I didn't see the big deal.
My mom placed a plate right in front of me and I tried to shove the whole waffle down my throat, but it didn't work so I ended up choking and I then had to listen to my mother as she scolded me for trying to kill myself.
We finally finished breakfast and I rushed my parents out the door, not giving them room to argue with me.
As my dad drove us to the local shelter, I couldn't help but practically bounce in my seat. I was getting a dog. I know my parent's said I couldn't get one today, but I also knew I wasn't going to leave without one. I know that doesn't make any sense but I had a plan.
"Mateo." My mother said and I turned the direction of her voice. "Yes ma?"
"I know you want a dog really bad right now but patience is key, ok? We'll ask them for options and we can move forward from there."
I scoffed, "Sure, whatever you say ma."
"Mateo, watch your tone." My father said sternly from in front of me.
I nodded, even though I knew he couldn't see me.
I felt the car come to a stop and my father say, "Okay. We're here." I knew they were both anxious about this, especially because they both knew I've been dying for a dog.
I hopped out of the car and took off in a random direction, hoping it was the right way to the entrance of the place and I was...not. My mother grabbed my arm and lead me in the right direction, "Mateo we talked about running off in random directions, wait for us."
"See, I wouldn't have this problem if I had a dog."
Neither of them said a word and I knew I was pushing the limits, but it was true.
We entered the building and we were immediately greeted with the sounds of dogs barking and the smell of feces.
I continued walking even though both of my parents stopped, my mother yelled at me to stop and I was confused as to why it was such a big deal until I felt why. I just stepped in dog shit.
Someone let out a small gasp, I'm guessing someone who worked there, "Oh my god! I'm so sorry, we were about to clean that up!" A shrill voice of a girl rang out.
"Mateo! This is what I mean when you just run off!" My mother chided me. Whatever, she may have a point...
"Here follow me and I'll get this cleaned right away." I heard the sound of her shoes hitting the ground and I followed after them, not noticing that I was walking right into a wall. What the hell is wrong with me today?
