The Funeral

Of course it had to be this day, the day that i got to visit my grandma after months, my mother cancels to go to a funeral. My grandma Claudette is so kind to me, we are so close. We'd tell each other secrets. When i was six i was scared of her dog, so she made sure the dog stopped jumping before i even pet her for the first time. Her short curly hair reminds me of disco, and her smile reminds me every time that she loves me. My mom, she's been so busy and distracted that I haven't gotten to visit her recently. She only lives a couple towns away.

I dressed myself in a fancy black dress, with lace on the edges. I curled my hair and stared at myself in the mirror. My eyebrows are like my mothers, thin and long. My eyes i have from my father. My hair colour, i have from my grandma. Her hair was a very nice light brown, long and wavy on its daily basis.

I was ready for this dumb funeral. I hope after my mom will drive to grandmas house, she always has newly baked cookies or banana bread. And her shortbread cookies were the best. I got in the car, we drove to a place that I've never been. About an hour later, they lowered grandpa into the ground...

I snapped back to reality after zoning out with my roaming thoughts, grandmas casket was lowered into the hole that was just her size. Mom kept me away because she was going under medical conditions.

No more special cookies for Christmas Morning, no more surprise banana bread, no more grandma-granddaughter bonding. I love you grandma. Goodbye. I hope you can come to my tenth birthday, my first double digits birthday. I'll send a piece up to heaven for you.
