You Weren't There

@gi

You weren't there.
What else can I say?
You're the one who took it all away.

Every time you shouted,
I was there by your side.
But as I bled out you fled from sight.

Spent my life patching scars,
That were already faded.
As I covered my eyes you had already shaded.

Pulling my eyes,
Blinding me with the light.
You knew I was suffering night after night.

But you didn't stay,
When I screamed for you.
Instead you looked away and the dread only grew.

I had trusted you,
Given you my heart,
And the moment you needed me I let you tear it apart.

The times you called me a liar,
Even when we both knew it wasn't true.
I didn't speak a word against you.

You claimed me an idiot,
And ignorant kid.
I didn't fight back, I was wrong for what I did.

After all I was selfless,
I put you first every time.
I was so wrong to help you heal, to put myself aside.

And I was wrong to try to help,
To be the friend you needed,
To be there for you just because you pleaded.

The thousandth chance I gave you,
Just wasn't enough.
When you said you were sorry I called your bluff.

Maybe I spoke to quietly,
Maybe I wasn't quite clear,
But I'm afraid this just shows our end is near.

I let you push me around,
Was the best I could be.
But you left... because you refused to see.

A side you never knew,
Because you never asked,
And because of you it just couldn't last.

A bound you claimed,
A feeling you said was strong,
But inside I knew it just didn't belong.

I was there when you needed me,
But where were you?
A friend... that was never quite true.
