UNFINISHED US CHAPTER 2

"Good for you. I'm happy for you." I said to Lilly and Smith with small smile.

Lilly holds my hand, "Hels, it's a sign for you to start dating too!" She insisted her theory with wide eyes and stern tone.

I turn my face and laugh, "No, Lils. i'm not interested. Guys don't like me, I don't like them so, yeah. You figure out." My answer made her frown.

"Hellen! For the love of God! Let me tell you something, guys are dying to date you! Travis, for example, he tries so hard and he has lots of girls dying to be his sweetheart. But you, Hellen Grant, you seem care less! Guys are lining up to be your boyfriend!"

Smith swallows his food and puts down his fork, "You know, guys in the school are talking about you every day and every where." Lilly stares at him and so do I but Lilly's scarier, "...in a good way of course!" He continues eating to avoid any further danger.

I try not to stick my eyes on him and start talking to Lilly, "I just haven't met the right guy yet."

Ding!

"Hi, non-smoking room for 1 adult, please." I said as the middle-aged man walked out of his small room 3 feet away from the front desk. His face looks so tired and the gravity pulled it too much.

"Type A, B or C?" He has a lazy heavy voice and said something I don't get.

"Uh, sorry... I don't..."

He cuts me, "Type A simple room with bed, bathroom and AC. Type B, bed, bathroom, TV, and AC. Type C, bed, bathroom, bath tub, kitchenette and AC. All type includes breakfast." Simple and to the point.

"Type A, please."

"50 dollars." He tells the price. 50 dollars?

"Harry!" A shrieking voice from the little room yelled and shock me, "Don't lie! It's 35 dollars! Cash only!"

The guy called Harry blows out air from his lung in a huge disappointment, "You heard her."

Reasonable. I pull out some money and put it on the table ,"35 dollars."

He grabs it as fast as he could and takes out a piece of small paper and a yellow pencil, "Tick the type of breakfast you want."

The paper has writings and boxes before it. It's written, toast; jam; pancakes; maple syrup; sunny side up. Below it, there's a column to fill the time to deliver the breakfast. There's a small writing at the bottom of the page, 'Maximum: 2 ticks. '

I tick toast and sunny side up and wrote 6.30 am. Just as I finish, Harry brought a key to me. The key is a bit rusty with a long wooden keychain that is carved like an Indian totem. The motel smeels a bit damp and the sky is getting pretty dark here. I can't tell the time since the car's clock is broken. I decided to stop at Staunton - in the middle of New York and Westel.

People think it's too risky to move out from Westel to big city especially New York City. But I would take all risk to move to New York City. Someone from up there surely sets everything already. Like, they accept the manuscript and scholarship application I sent to them. It's not a big and famous university, but this is a good university for literature. The scholarship covers 80% of everything with a condition to work with them for 3 years as a freelance writer - 40% of the salary's for me. I don't mind working to them, I think of it as a shortcut. No more jobs application or interview. Accommodation's set up - a 1 bedroom apartment in an area called Manhattan that I should find as I got there - Lilly screamed as loud as the honk when I said the area. I do think it's too easy. Like everything is settled already.
