I tightened the hood around my head as I gazed around the grounds in the gloomy, foggy night. I hopped over the thick wired fence.
I hear a rustle behind me, and I spun around with my dagger out.
The man standing before me did not seem alarmed to see my dagger, unnerving me.
"Here, I guard the Dragon's Graveyard. For what purpose do you come here, stranger?" came the voice from under a heavy cloak. He wore a thick ruby-encrusted pendant around his necklace, the banishing charm. This will not go well for me, I thought, if I don't handle this carefully.
I tightened my hold on the dagger.
"If you do not answer my question, I will send you away."
I tucked my dagger into a sheath within my belt. I straightened my back, staring at the guard. "I've come to meet a friend here tonight."
"Jokrim?" he asked as he shifted a foot forward.
"Indeed. Lekolas?"
"Aye."
All tension between the two of us ell away like butter in the sun. I did not realized how stiff my shoulders had been. I stretched my neck, smiling at my friend in the dark.
"Come this way, Jokrim. I have some scales to sell," Lekolas said as we walked down a path towards a building.
"You must be making a killing, selling dragon parts."
He chuckled. "Oh, yes."
